How much caffeine do you drink? How many cups of coffee/tea in a day? How many sodas?

Just curious because I just got the lecture from my doc about cutting it out of my diet. I know it's gonna be hard...

What can I do next?

I don't drink caffeine. I can't. It makes me feel like I'm on speed.

My husband cut out caffeine, and the best way to do it was slowly. He went from a few drinks a day to one less per day, then 1/2 more less and repeated until he had completely cut it out.

I'm not a coffee drinker (can't even get past the smell), and I drink caffeine-free pop, so no caffeine here :)

I drink 1 or 2 strong cups of coffee a day. Every once in a while I'll also drink tea...sometimes herbal and sometimes with caffeine.
Coffee does has some health benefits as opposed to soda, which I stopped drinking years ago. I believe there is over 1 cup of sugar in a can of soda, and diet sodas are just as bad.

Close to two cups of coffee every morning. I say "close" because I usually dump the last half of the second cup.
No soda. Sometimes an iced tea in the afternoon during the summer.
At this point in my life I have given up every other vice so I will continue with my morning coffee, and evening wine, guilt free!!!

I think if you drink coffee you obviously need to cut down by drinking caffeine free.

There are caffeine free sodas out there that are NOT diet, that's a good way to go. When I want a caffeine free soda I drink either the gold can of Coke or I drink some brands of Root Beer. They do actually add caffeine to some brands, like Dads, it has caffeine. So read the labels.

When I drink tea I drink Luzianne caffeine free.

This is something that is totally controllable. All you have to do is cut back a little at a time. Caffeine is a stimulant. It is a drug so I would check with the doc about going cold turkey. I would think that might be hard to do, do-able of course, but it could cause some health issues.

I drink a half cup of coffee in the AM. I do not use sugar or artificial sweeteners.

I drink water between 11am - 1pm.

I usually have a cup of organic green tea (fights cancer) in the afternoon. I add a touch of agave to it.

I would never touch diet soda. Too many chemicals...and the side effects can be horrible ! Plus, I saw the film "Sweet Misery".

If I drink a regular soda every so often, it has to be free of corn syrup (which is genetically engineered). So, I buy it from the natural foods section in the grocery store. It's much more expensive because it's made with real cane sugar and not the cheap, processed corn syrup.

I love Perrier in the glass bottle. It's a treat if I need a bubbly drink. I add fresh squeezed lemon.

Half a cup of coffee in the morning and an iced green tea in the afternoon is my norm. Although, over the past six months I have weaned myself to the point were I can go without it and not get a headache. The morning coffee is more of a ritual I enjoy which is why I do the half cup only.

I decided to cut down when I noticed I was getting headaches anytime I skipped the afternoon dose of caffeine. It is much easier to cut down gradually because the side effects are horrible. I did substitute my afternoon coffee with an excedrin for awhile until I was able to get through the day headache free. Now I only go for green tea if I want something besides that morning half cup.

Good luck, and remember, gradual...not cold turkey. :)

Caffeine in moderate doses can be good for most people. Is doc saying to cut it out completely, or just cut back?

I drink a large cup of coffee in the morning (I often don't finish it). Occasionally I drink iced tea or a soda in the afternoon, if I need a pick me up.

I allow myself two cups of tea or coffee a day. The morning usually starts with a nice black tea (with sugar, which is the only time I have sugar) and in the afternoon, one cup of tea or coffee.

Sometimes, though, I'll have a one-shot short latte in the late morning and then abstain from the afternoon caffeine.

No soda.

I drink one good sized, strong cup of coffee a day. I also usually have a big cup of tea in the afternoon or evening. Before I had my daughter I drank a LOT of Diet Coke, but I weaned myself mostly off of it.

I live in fear that I will be told to cut out caffeine one day.... good luck!

Zero coffee, zero tea, and maybe 2 sodas every other week. I do nibble on dark chocolate maybe once a day, but it is actually healthy for you.

I found out in November that I am caffeine intolerant (which is similar to being lactose intolerant) and at that point, I had to cut most caffeine out of my diet (I can handle a small piece of chocolate cake or decaf coffee, but even a cup of tea will make me very sick). It has been very difficult, as I LOVE Japanese green tea, and the real stuff isn't available caffeine-free, but I've managed by substituting caffeine-free things into my life when I want caffeine. I drink decaf coffee and lie to myself about its effectiveness, I eat hard candy when I need a burst of sugar, drink soda brands like Whole Foods brand (which is naturally caffeine-free), and I drink a lot of drinks like Odawalla Superfood Juice to try to give myself healthy energy. I had headaches for a while, but I think that stuff is finally out of my system. Good luck.

P.S. I still really miss true Green Tea...I hope that I am not caffeine intolerant for the rest of my life, but for the foreseeable future, it's out of my diet.

Oooooh, I am SO THERE. I am cutting out caffeine right now and it is so hard! I drank easily three diet cokes per day. Not the cans, the big 32/44 oz cups. Yuck.

My body ached, and was always craving sweets and the headaches were awful on the days that I went without.

Hunker down and do your best, but allow yourself a treat at least once or twice a week. But my advice is to start drinking water, water, water. As much as you can stand and it will help get it all out of your system. (At least that is what worked for me.)

Good luck, this isn't easy, but I have to admit, I sleep better, eat less sweets and amazingly (shock!!) I have saved a TON of money!! :)

Keep us posted!

I drink 3 cups of coffee a day. The first is a normal size coffee cup, but the two I drink at work are larger cups, probably hold like a cup and a half.

I don't usually drink any soda and although I love tea, don't drink that on a regular basis either.

Good luck! I would hate to have to cut out my coffee!

I had to cut caffeine out for medical reasons recently. I'm not a coffee drinker, but am a soda drinker. I started drinking caffeine-free Coke and in an effort to lose weight, only had one a day, at night. If you generally have a lot of caffeine in a day, cut it down gradually to avoid headaches.

Good luck!

I drink one cup of coffee most mornings.
On the few days I don't feel like coffee, I have a tea which is high caffeine.
I'm caffeine sensitive.
If I have it first thing in the morning, I'm alright but if I have it after noon, I'll be up all night.
My husband is not sensitive to it at all.
Sometimes he'll like a cup in the evening to relax - it just doesn't affect him like it does me.
Many in his office will walk around with a coffee cup in their hands all day.
I'll drink caffeine free herbal teas in the afternoon or evening.
I don't drink soda every day - I'll go weeks without it.
If we go out to a restaurant (maybe once every few months), a coke with a meal is ok.
We limit our son to 1 soda a week after school on Fridays.
I think if you are aware what has caffeine in it and are very moderate in your consumption, a little bit is not a bad thing.
But if your doctor wants you to cut it out altogether, he must have a good reason for wanting you to do this.

I drink 2-4 cups of strong black coffee a day. Usually a moderate amount of caffeine is fine. Do you have a special health risk? If so there are many decafe options out there.

I limit myself to 2 caffeinated beverages per day or it gives me trouble sleeping. I became more sensitive when I was pregnant. I have heard that 1-2 cups of coffee/tea has health benefits. I tried no caffeine but that didn't work out with young kids. And yes, decrease slowly.

I drink about 2 1/2 cups every morning, I brew the coffee pretty weak though because I dislike really strong coffee. The rest of the day I drink water. It doesn't cause me problems, just makes waking up easier...I've read a lot of info about how coffee in moderation can actually be good for you, it helps me with my morning exercise routine, etc. so I have no reason to give it up.

Caffeine does nothing to me! Maybe because I've drank it all my life! Im addicted to diet dp and I drink 2 a day with water in between. I will NOT give up my diets! I love a big tall glass of sweet tea now and then too! Blame it on my country upbringing!!

several coke zero's a day. It is the only thing I am addicted to. I don't smoke or drink, but I cannot get by without the soda. During pregnancy I weaned to 2 a day, but went back up when sleep deprivation started. If you do cut it out of your diet, do it slowly. Caffeine withdrawal is horrible.
