This may sound like a dumb question...

My soon to be 2 year old has finaly taken to baby dolls. I was thinking of buying her a Cabbage Patch Doll...I have fond memories of mine and in fact still have it.

I would like to know what other moms did...

Did you buy a doll that looks just like your child or did you buy a doll with the coloring that she preferes or did you just picked up the doll with out thinking about it.

My daughter has brown hair and brown eyes...
But she is fond of people with blond hair.

What would you do?

What can I do next?

My girls great grandmother got them a Cabbage Doll that was born around my daughters' birthdates. She did this for all her great granddaughters. I did give my own cabbage patch doll to my oldest to play with before I had 2 more girls. That is how my daughters got theirs but they don't play with those one so much as the Little Mommy ones.

I always wanted a doll that looks like my daughter, but she always picks different dolls. She has some with red hair, dark hair, even some with darker skin color. She is a very pale blonde with blue eyes! Anyway I feel that if it is her baby and you want her to have a special bond with it, perhaps she should pick it out. My daughter does not like Cabbage Patch Dolls at all so we have never done this, but she always gets the final say on which baby doll we get for her. Anyway, hope that helps.

My 2.5 YO has quite a few baby dolls and she plays with all of them equally not caring about hair/eye color. With that said she does have two that have blonde hair like hers. She has an American Girl bitty baby with blue eyes and blonde hair. Her CPK is one of the baby CPK's with a small amount of blonde hair. The bitty baby and most of her other dolls don't really have hair it's the resemblance of hair.
You'll probably find that she's less inclined to the hair and what will be far more important is how easy it is to remove the dolls clothes.

Also, unless this is going to be your gift to her for her bday, you might want to hold off. That seems to be the easy gift of choice and my daughters collection of dolls grew substantially after her 2nd party. If you get her a doll and she gets others at the same time her CPK might be less special to her.

Like you, I have fond memories of my Cabbage Patch Kid and wanted my daughter to have the same.

For my daughter's 1st birthday, I bought her one. Since she was not old enough to tell me what she wanted, I went to their website and searched for one that looked like her. I found one!! I called their number and "adopted" the doll. I paid a little extra to have them name her for me and changed the birthdate. I named the CPK the same as my daughter and gave her the same birthdate.. She wasn't to fond of her doll at first but now she is almost 3 and loves her doll. She thinks it's funny that her and the doll have the same name and birthdays.

I think that since she is old enough to know what she likes, let her pick out her own doll. If I were to buy my daughter another one in the future, I would let her pick it out.

Hope your daughter enjoys her CPK as much as mine does.

Trish,

How we did it was, I took our daughter (who's now 4 yo) to Wal-mart and we went down the isle where the CP dolls are. She then pointed out the ones that she liked. So we just got one of them. That way we knew that she'd like that one. I was waiting until she turned 5 yo to get her one that looked just like her, because then she'd be old enough to actually "take care" of it. Ya know. So I am looking into that right now, because she'll be 5 in August.

There is a website, I am not sure I can remember it though, that makes the dolls to look just like you want them. It has to do with the doll being your daughter's twin. I am not sure of the site's name though. I will try to find my catalog and send you a msg if I do.

good luck...CP dolls are awesome!! Kloe has 4 of them

At this age, she'll will probably like any baby doll you get. Like another mother said you might wait until after her birthday as she will probably get some new dolls if she has a party.I did get my daughter one from the MYTWINN dolls. They can make one that looks like her for you. They are expensive though. I would wait until she is older to get one of these dolls. (My dd calls hers her heavy baby since it is a heavier doll.) There are wires in the dolls so you can pose them. You can also buy your daughter and the doll matching clothes on the website.

We have lots of dolls, including CPK. My 2 year old loves them all, but plays with her CPK the least. As the previous post said- my daughter loves to take off her dolls clothes. Most of her favs are small, just the right size for her arms. She doesnt care about hair, eyes etc. We went to the Dollar Tree one day and she picked out a doll there- yes for 1.00. (Its not a very cute baby but she loves it!!) Take her with you and let her pick her own. Good luck and have fun with whats to come with the baby dolls!
