I had a c section almost 4 weeks ago. Now I have tiny bumps along my incision and I'm itching something terrible. Please help. My doctor said use neosporin but it's not helping. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hello! Thanks for all the suggestions. I stopped using the neosporin and just cleaned with peroxide. No more itchies. Doing great

Did the doctor tell you to use Neosporin to help with the itching?

I thought Neosporin was an antibiotic ointment, not an antihistamine.

I think I would call the doctor in the morning to clarify.

My daughter iches horribly with neosporin so the Dr. recommended polysporin instead. Some have allergic reactions to Neosporin.

congrats on your new baby... also.. try a few things ,,PURE aloe vera to help the healing process and pure coconut to help relieve the dryness and itch, additionally, it helps to slough off dry skin scales..

wishing you all the best

Pharmacist here. 6% of patients get contact dermatitis from Neosporin (triple antibiotic ointment). Get plain bacitracin if infected (doesn't sound like it though). NO tape. Put a pad over the incision to prevent undies from rubbing.

Have you been putting neosporin on all along? I ask because I have sensitive skin, and using neosporin for more than a day gives me little bumps and terrible itching as an allergic reaction. After my c sections, I was best off just keeping the incision site clean and dry.

I was allergic to the tape they used on the incision. It itched horribly and I had raised bumps that looked like water blisters. They told me many women had allergic reactions to the tape too. I would call the doctor and tell him you think you are having some type of allergy because of the itching, and ask if he/she can look at the incision. Antihistamine or hydrocortisone cream and an oral antihistamine were both necessary for me.

I agree with calling the doc, but for immediate relief ice can help with itching. Try an ice pack or bag of peas wrapped in a paper towel directly on the incision.

I remember the itchies. This will pass. Your icision is scabbing? I seriously mean this, ask the pharmacist at your local walgreens or CVS. I don't want to recommend something in case it isn't working for you so I will send you to them. They are great references.

Make sure you are cleaning you are keeping your incision clean. I used to clean mine 2x per day (AM and PM) regardless of if i took a shower. I would then put antiboitic ointment (instead of the cream). The bumps could be from the internal stitches. I know I have some of them still at 4 months post c section.

I had a c-section 14 years ago and I STILL get what I assume is "heat rash" only it's all the time. I am heavier and hot blooded, so I sweat alot.

The only thing that has worked for me is to dry myself off really well after I get out of the shower and then apply a thin layer of aquaphor. It's gross, but it works.
