C-section Scheduled in 3 Days and I Am Getting a Cold!

I have a C-Section scheduled on Thursday, but I think I am developing a cold. I was up all night with a bad sore throat and stuffy nose. My 2 year old is also showing symptoms. Should I call my OB and let them know? Or is that over-reacting? Will it affect anything? Could it possibly hurt the baby if I am still sick when I have her? The contagious period should be over by then, right? I am not coughing or sneezing, which I know would be really bad. I am thinking I should wait before I say anything, but I am not sure. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks. I did call my OB. He said so long as I don't develop a fever over 101 I will be ok, and he gave me the OK to take some over the counter drugs to help me get some rest and feel better while I have the chance before the baby comes.

I would definitely call your doctor and tell her/him. The contagious period for a cold is generally 5 days from onset of symptoms(doctors have told me and I've researched it on the net), so you'll still be contagious. That's not necessarily the reason that they would want to postpone. I think they usually want you healthy before surgery, that's why they need to know.

Chances are it's no big deal, but call your ob just to be sure. I doubt it will affect delivery really. The good thing is, she's probably getting some of the antibodies already and if you breast feed you will give your baby more of the antibodies to protect her against getting the cold and if she does get it, in my experience, it will not last as long.

You need to call your OB. S/He'll probably reschedule, but you and s/he know the reasons for your scheduled c-section, so you really need to discuss your options. Hope you and your DS get to feeling better soon!

Congratulations on your new DD!!

I would ask your ob and maybe go see your regular doc and make sure it is not the flu. There is a bad strain going around that was not in the shot. I got it and had the shot. My symptoms started like yours and got worse. Much worse. If I had gone to the doc early on, I could have had tamiflu and not been sick for two weeks. You do not want to have a newborn and the flu.
