I'm scheduled to have my C-section next month. Please let me know what to expect on recovery. I am specifically interested in how long it will be before I can pick up the little ones in my in-home daycare. I watch an 18 month old and will need to lift him into a pack & play and high chair - when should I expect to be able to do this, and does anyone have any suggestions/tips on what I can do in the mean time before I can lift him? We just can't afford for me to not watch them for 6 weeks...

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

I had 2 C-sections with my boys. I have to tell you that it took a while before I could hold heavy things or do certain things like using the vacuum, stairs, driving, bending.
The first day is pretty painful, but you are encouraged to move and walk. There are some ways to hold your baby to feed her, and nurses can teach you how to do it, so you don't put too much pressure on your belly.
It would be a good idea to ask your doctor about it, and ask him/her when you will be able to resume your normal activities. The recovery takes time, and you will need all the help possible. Prepare before hand, and ask for help, be patient and remember you and your baby health's is first.
That was my experience, some moms recover earlier and some others later , every body and situation is different.
Good Luck ad congratulations!

I had a c-section with both of my boys and I recovered quickly but I had friends who did not. So everyone is different. But my doctor did tell me with my second c-section that I could lift my older boy (who was 17 months at the time). It really just depends on how you recover. Is the little boy able to help out a little by climbing into the high chair or put a step stool out for him to climb into the pack and play? I would ask your doctor because you don't want to do too much too soon.

I can't imagine that any doctor would release you to lift an 18 month old the first 6 weeks after your c-section. I have had 2 c-sections and to be honest with you - you will not feel like lifting another child let alone continue your daycare w/ no time off. You might want to reconsider this decision or see if you can find someone to help you out - you definitely need the time to heal. Good luck.
