C-section Perineum Rinsing

How long after a C-section do you continue to rinse your perineum instead of wipe? I forgot to ask when I left the hospital and can't remember what I did last time.

What can I do next?

I didn't do this after my c-section. Only my vaginal birth.
Unless you pushed and failed to get the baby out - resulting in a tear...why would you need to do this?

You're doing this after a cesarean? You should have no perineal stitches or perineal swelling. I taught childbirth education for 13 years, and never was aware that cesarean moms were advised to do the peri squirt. That's really for vaginal birth moms.

I've had 2 C-sections, and I have no idea what you're talking about.

The only instructions I was given about hygiene were that I should make a point to dry the incision area after a shower so as to avoid getting a rash there. I forgot one time, and I haven't since.

Congratulations on your new baby!

I was given a peri-bottle after my recent c-section, and it was very helpful for the first few days when it was difficult to move. It isn't something that you need to use for medical reasons, though. If it's helpful to you, use it. If you don't feel like you need to, then don't.

Hope you're healing well! :-)

Haha, with my first I did it for 6 weeks. With babies #2 & 3, just a week. No infections with any of them.

I don't remember washing for more than 4-5 days...maybe it was even 2-3 days.

I only rinsed until the heavy bleeding stopped- was easier to rinse then wipe! but once the heavy bleeding was gone I stopped rinsing.

I didn't do this at all after my c-section, either, only after vaginal birth & even then, it was only for a few days. Seems like it would be totally uneccesary after a C, but maybe I'm confused or we don't have all the info.
