I had an emergency c-section and ever since then my back has been killing me right where the needle was inserted for the spinal.Idon't see any bruising or swelling but the pain gets to be excrutiating after a bit. It's only been a month, and I haven't brought it up to the doctor just yet. I was just curious if this has happened to anyone else- how common it was...if maybe I had done something to cause this or not.
Well now tht I know I am not alone in having this back pain I will be sure to bring it up to the doctor on the next visit....hopefully (and I'm sure it's so)everything will be fine!!

I've had 2 c-sections and I did experience pain from the first one, but not after the second. IMHO, the pain from the spinal from the first was worse than my pain from the actual c-section of the first. Long after the pain in my belly was gone, the pain in my back was still there. Thankfully, with my second, I didn't experience that at all!

I had back labor before my c-section was performed. I had back pain for about 2 months, but I don't know if it was the c-section, the back labor or both. My son's head would not come out of the birth canal, so I pushed for 1.5 hours. His head kept hitting my pelvic bone and lower back bone. It's been about 5 years since the operation and I still experience back pain from time to time, but nothing like right after I had Zac. I hope this is helpful.-S. T.

I had a c-section three years ago. It was months, maybe even a whole year before I stopped feeling where the needle had been inserted. The holes where they attempted to insert the epidural (they tried three times) are still visible. What I'm saying is, don't worry. It's only been a month. It will get better!

Please go and see the Dr. The anethesiologist is the one who put it in. You should probably talk to them. I had a c-section too and did not experience pain in my back where they put the catheter in. It doesn't hurt to have it checked out.

I had 2 C-sections. With both I had pain. One of them
(I can't remember which) I had really bad pain and brusing. I hurt for almost a year and it was really bad if I stood for a long time, but nothing was wrong. IMO--I really think it is the cause of the anestsiologist (sp?), and how gental they are with the spinal!

I can relate to you. I have fibromylagia in my spine, I aslo had a spinal for my C-section. My daughter is now six months old. My pain lasted about three months or so. You really need to tell the doctor about the discomfort. The doctor can give you some advice on how to treat it. My advice is to try icing your back where it hurst this will help take the inflammation down until you can get in to see your doctor. My doctor gave me a script for Ibuprofen 600mg and this seems to help with the inflammation from the spinal tap for me.

yes i had a problem with the injection site. mine didn't seal after they removed the needle and some spinal fluid leaked out so i had terrible headaches for about a week. when it finally healed the spot on my back was pretty sore. i don't think it was anything we did, just one of the risks of sticking a needle into the spine. if the pain is really bad bring it up! thats what doctors are for, to help us through health issues.

I think you'll find that it's common, however you should always mention anything out of the ordinary to your OB. It needs to be documented and at the very least they may be able to give you some relief!

I had an unplanned c-section as well. I would definetly talk to your doctor about it, I had no pain after mine. Though I did throw up after it was inserted as an alergic reaction to the drug itself.

I too had an emergency c-section. However, mine was several years ago. I also had a lot of pain where the spinal was given. I could tell right where it went in. I had some pain on site but nothing excrutiating. I would call your doctor. I think it is common to have pain there but not that much. I hope you feel better soon.

I really don't know exactly how common this is, but I have certainly heard others complain of back pain at the needle insertion site. Not just after childbirth, but after other procedures too. Definitely mention it to your doctor right away.

It is extremely common to have minor to major side effects from all invasive procedures...
See your doctor. There may be things that can be done.

I'm sorry to say that my daughter is 17 & that is still a sensitive spot for me. If my back is relaxed, it doesn't bother me at all. If there is tension in my lower back, my husband can't even brush his hand over that spot without me yelping. I've mentioned it to my doctors over the years and they are surprised that it still bothers me, but have no suggestions to change/fix anything. Just a touchy spot on my body.

I didn't have a spinal, but my epidural site was sore for about a week after. It's probably nothing serious if you're not having any other symptoms, but it would be a good idea to have your doctor check it out anyway. It's a little unusual to be that sore for that long.

My back pain after my epidural with my first child was horrible. In fact, I refused it with my second birth. It did go away in about a month. Please call your docotor and tell him what is going on. I like you didn't want to complain and found out after that the doctors have heard this complaint many times and do have ways of helping you. So please complain and get help.

I have had 2 C-sections and have never had that pain. I did have a spinal headache with the first that went away on it's own. If it hurts that bad I would call the doctor and ask them if it is normal. It probably is nothing but if it was me I would want to know for sure. Good luck.

it's not something you did. what my doc told me was that the risk for a spinal is: if it's not done properly or you jerk just a little, anything, you can be leaking spinal fluid. that would be the cause of the pain. you really need to tell your doc, they are who can help you.

I had two, one emergency, one planned. I don't recall any pain in the site. Of course, they had me pretty loopy!
I did have a lot of back pain after my daughter was born, but it was from holding and nursing all the time and holding my back in a bad place!

Hi, I've had 3 children and 3 epiderals, and I remember for months after my child was born that part hurting me, I didn't have a mark or a bruise either, maybe alittle scab. But, mine was tolerable, maybe you should try calling your dr just incase, feel better and congrats on your new little bundle of joy :)

While I have not had a c-section i have had a spinal. While I was a bit sore right away I did not have any lingering pain. However, I have two adult daughters who have had the exact same thing you are describing. They both have said it still acts up and their youngest kids are 1 and 2. Since you have not had your 6 week check up I would most definately bring it up at your check-up. But If it is hurting that bad I would call the ob or ob dept at the hospital and ask them what they think it might be. Could be bruising on the inside or might be something more.

Please tell your doctor immediately. You should not still be having pains. It is not life threatening, but something needs to be done about it before it becomes more serious.
