Has anyone tried Buyers Direct as seen in the infomercials? Is it really a better way to buy things for home improvement?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your responses, I think I will avoid Direct Buy. Sounds like a big hassle.

NO!!! Stay away. My husband and I did the Direct Buy thing 3 years ago and we just paid off the damn loan this year for a 2 year membership that we never got to use. At the time we couldn't pay $2500 out of pocket so we financed it. They told us after 2 months that it was too late to cancel. We went to their store to find out how great it was and it seemed like a really good idea. They hype everything up. But for a typical middle-class family it's not affordable. It's probably great to save on the cost of cabinets but you still have the installation. They say they'll help you find someone but I doubt it's really going to help. Everything that we wanted to buy was either the same cost or less at Sears, Best Buy or somewhere else - so why wait 6 to 12 weeks for it to be shipped in when you can buy it at the store. Furniture was only good if you have EXPENSIVE taste. I'm sure it was cheaper than the furniture stores but I couldn't afford $2000 for a frickin' crib. For my husband and I it was a nightmare, and we even had the forewarning of my mother-in-law not to do it. Should have listened to her. Hope you make the best decision for your family.

My husband and I were looking into a membership until I did an internet search for 'Direct Buy infomercial'. We were really hopeing to save some money fixing up one of our rental homes, but after reading hundreds of (consistant) complaints we opted to not even look into it. It sounds like a pretty hands-off company, that ones they get you lured in that's when their customer service stops. Anyhow, I would highly recomend doing a google search of your own and seeing what others had to say about it....I was amazed!

Do you mean Direct Buy? If so, I am a member there and don't know that I will renew my membership. The receptionist at the Tempe location is consitantly rude. The staff is not very helpful and take quite a while to return phone calls (24-48 hours).

We purchased a dining set a couple years ago & saved more than 50%. However, it arrived damaged. Direct Buy sent their repair person who fixed one thing, but never returned to finish the job. After placing several calls to have this finished, I finally gave up & it's never been taken care of.

Bottom line -- if you have tons of patience and a chunk of change to part with (membership is around 4 to 5 thousand), it may be worth your time. I'm starting to feel it's better to go to a local store & pay retail for something I want & have the company & customer service to fall back on the product if I'm not happy.

Hi K.,
My sister belongs to it. She says if you really have a lot of like home improvements to do, this is the way to go. It costs a few thousand to sign up. But they used it to redo their upstairs and downstairs bath and really saved a lot. I think they might have carpeted their upstairs too.
