For this grass cutting season we need to either buy a lawnmower and edger, or find a good lawncare service to cut our yard. Any advise on which is best? Who do you recommend and how much is the going rate for a service?

What can I do next?

I would love to get a lawn mower, but my husband insists on the lawn service. I don't mind mowing the lawn, our yard is what I consider medium size. It would probably take me an hour to mow it. We pay $32 for our lawn service to do our lawn and edging. They also pick out the weeds for us. I do like them and they do a good job, but I would rather save the money. I don't have their info (they knock on our door every year to tell us when they are coming), but they are JAMA Landscaping, you can try to find them online. They are the most reasonable I found and they do a lot of homes in Twin Creeks in Allen. I did look at lawn mowers last year and was told to spend the extra money and get a self-propelled lawn mower.

We've done both. We had a couple of services and they just never got it the wawy my husband wanted it PLUS, by using mowers that had been on other people's yards, it brought in the fungus to our yard yearly.

We have a very large tierd lot and we paid a flat rate of $200 a month for mowing/weeding.

Hubby got fed up, bought a Honda mower at Home Depot (about $600) and LOVES it, then bought Stihl (sp) weeder and blower from Plano Power Equipment.

This will be the 3rd year and our yard is the best it has ever been. NO fungus.

We are the largest lot in our neighborhood so we paid more, I think the average lots are about $45/mowing/weeding weekly.

I'd suggest you buy the equipment and do it yourself only if you enjoy yardwork and the satisfaction of a job well done. There's no sense putting yourself through the weekly committment if you have to drudge yourself out there. The going rate in our neighborhood is $25 week for a cut, edge and blow - the trimmings are not collected. One thing I notice is that the yardworkers put there mowers on the lowest setting to the ground, which isn't healthy for all types of grasses. It looks good, but the grass doesn't flourish.

Try the Green Team. I know them personally and they are great. Everyone I have recommended has been pleased with them. ###-###-####
