Ladies,
I really need your help! I am 34 weeks pregnant and am suffering from horrible anxiety attacks. I have made it this far without any medications but i feel like I need something in these last few weeks or I am not going to be able to deliver this baby. The doctor has suggested Buspar or zoloft. I know that zoloft is a class C. i am interested in taking the Buspar 5mg. Has anyone taken Buspar? particularly in the last few weeks before delivery. Is there any effect on the baby? like withdrwal? Please any experience will be very helpful.

Thanks.

What can I do next?

I would talk to a pharmacist. Actually I'd talk to several. I have gotten a couple of different responses on anxiety meds. So many of them were developed for different uses. Like one for allergies that ends up being wonderful for anxiety.

I would never take anything unless I felt confident that I had spoken to each pharmacist I could, researched what the trusted medical sites have said about it, and I would see how I felt about it deep in my heart.

Often a med has been around years and years and they have had a lot of women take it for different uses. Pregnant or not pregnant. SO they know what it might or might not do. SO do some research on your own then visit with several pharmacists. You should feel confident one way or the other.

Even if I told you that I took it and it was safe that does not mean "you" might not have some weird side effect of it.

no-go get EMDR-it does not require medication-and it is a permanent treatment for a myriad of issues, including anxiety.

Your OB should be able to tell you about the possible side effects on the baby.

Do you exercise? If not, I would give that a try first. You can walk, do pregnancy yoga, swim, meditate.

Adding some exercise in might really help curb the anxiety.

Hi, M.:

Buspar takes several weeks to take effect.

Zoloft is in the Pregnancy risk category C.

I would suggest you sit quietly when a panic attack comes on and let it pass. Talk to your husband about what you are fearing to help you work through your pain.

Good luck.

First, congratulations on your pregnancy!

Second, I know how awful this can be as I suffered with it during my 3rd pregnancy. I did what was suggested here. I started exercising just a little bit and sitting quietly (if possible) until it passed. I know, I know...easier said then done because sometimes they hit while grocery shopping or whatever but really you don't have that much longer. You can do with without meds. Take a long hot bath. Try wearing a rubber band on your wrist. When you feel the anxiety coming on, literally snap yourself out of it by snapping the rubber band. The idea being that you need to divert your mind from whatever is setting you off. Also, be kind to yourself. It is okay to be afraid of things. You don't have to let fear consume you but when it does, just treat yourself gently. You are not failing. It is just one of those things. And if you feel like you really need the meds, talk to everyone (pharmacist) you can and make the best informed decision you can.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
