Hi all. I clean a gentlemans house every thursday. Well about a month ago he fell asleep cooking chicken strips in the oven. The smell was awful. Over the past couple weeks the smell has died down. But there are a few places in the house were you can still smell it. I am needing ideas on what to use on the walls, floors and cabinets to get rid of the smell for good. He has the most beautiful dark wood floors and cabinets. So I need something that is not going to hurt them in anyway. Any and all ideas would be great. Thank you all.

What can I do next?

I love Orange Oil for my wood cabinets. It's great as a conditioner, cleaner and great aroma all at once. Good luck!

Set out baking soda in those areas. I've also heard that coffee beans will absorb the smell - but only if he isn't adverse to the coffee bean smell in his house!

I dont see why the burnt smell would be on the floor & cabinets...Is there still reminents of it in the oven, perhaps finishing burning it off with an oven cleaning or cleaning the oven real good yourself. If you really feel the wood is a concerns, just wipe them down with soap & water.

If you know someone who has essential oils or a diffuser, diffuse "Purify" into the air. It works wonders.

Bring a bunch of boxes of baking soda and place them all over the house and if he is okay with it leave them there for the week. That should help to absorb the stink. Also if there is any carpet, sprinkle that on when you first arrive and leave it there until you are done everything else and vacuum it up right before you leave. If the smell is still lingering I would bet that it has attached itself to curtains and fabric furniture and what not and in that case a spray down with febreeze should do the trick.

Good Luck

Popping popcorn works wonders at removing other odors. Baking soda is awesome. So is white vinegar. Coffee grounds are fantastic as well. How about some lemon juice?
