Hi Ladies,

I am 3 months prego with my third afer 8 years and I am having horrible "all day" sickness...lol...morning, noon and night. However, lately when I throw up it burns my throat for a long time afterward. This didn't happen until recently and I do have a doc appt so I plan on asking him also...tomorrow as a matter of fact... but I was just wondering if this happens to any of you and what do you do to ease or prevent the burning pain?

I get hungry but I usually wait until last resort to eat because I'm scared to eat and swallow because of burning.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I HAVE to eat about every two hours or I get sick and throw up. I don't drink and eat at the same time and I only eat small meals. This has helped tremendously with the throwing up. I do get heart burn, however the burning in my throat I had this question about is not related to heart burn. It was purely that nasty burning you get after you throw up that makes it impossible to eat or even drink water. Mother's, we go thru so much....

Thanks for everyones concern and advise and I will be trying some of the things suggested!

Gargle with salt water. My Dr. always tells me that's the effective way to soothe any type of throat problem. Just don't swallow any ;)

The not eating makes it worse, because you are brining up bile and acid. Trust me had it all nine months with my first every day, all day. Eat smaller meals, but eat because even if you bring it back up it is better than the bile.

I found fruity pebbles to be the best and easiest both ways (Sorry if TMI) You just have to find the food that works for you. I can't eat lasagna to this day.

Stay away from acid foods, tomato, lemon, etc. Just remember it won't last forever. On the plus side I only gained 10 lbs during the whole pregnancy and she was very healthy.

It's heart burn! I never had heart burn until I was pregnant. I also had all day sickness, the whole nine months. It's been a while, but i think nibbling crackers helped with the acidity. Also, eat more frequently, the longer you hold it off, the worse it is. Just eat small portions and avoid acidic/spicy/greasy foods. Oh, ask your Dr. for Zofran for the extreme nausea!

That awful acid! Do not drink anything acidic, and constantly snack, EVEN when you don't feel hungry, on bland foods without acid. I lived on crackers and ginger ale for the first 3 months of my pregnancy!

My doc let me take zantac when it go to be too much. I couldn't have survived without it! Ask your doc.

Good luck!

Drink anything that is a base (non-acidic) to soothe/coat the burning of stomach acid. For me, it was ice cream. :-) Even try gargling with milk (sounds gross but it puts 'the fire' out). If you don't like cows milk then try vanilla and chocolate soy milk. Yogurt smoothies are another option.

Like others said, it's heartburn. I get it from mid-pregnancy till the end. I try to eat something milk based - drink milk, eat ice cream, etc - to ease the pain of it coming back up. When milk based products don't ease the heartburn, I turn to Prilosec or Prevacid. My last OB said if one does not work for you the other will. I also have horrible all day morning sickness from week 7 until the baby comes out. I have to be put on Zofran the whole time and increase the dosage the later I get. I missed a dose when I was giving birth to the last baby and ended up alternating pushing with throwing up. Not kidding.

some iced decaf tea...the tannin in the tea will help heal your throat. It also helps with swollen gums, too!

Eat some graham crackers in bed before you get up...wait 15 minutes & then see what happens.....

& quit avoiding eating....it's only making it worse.

Sounds like heartburn. I would learn how to 'adjust' yourself and get your stomach back in place. It's out of whack, it sounds. I could recommend someone, but she's in Pinckney. Good, however. If you weren't preggers, I'd say take a big huge drink of water and then jump down 2 steps in a stairway. The action plus the water would help getting the stomach back in place, thus stopping the heartburn. No heartburn, no burning. You don;t want to pop a lot of meds right now. Anything peppermint...mint PERIOD will hel;p too. Even tooth;paste.
Good luck
