It's quite possible that you're actually allergic to his semen. That's not unheard of. There was actually a whole program designated to a situation like this on Discovery Health awhile back. Talk to your Dr. about this.

I'm going to throw this out there because I had the same problem - turns out I had an asymptomatic bacterial infection. Pretty much my only symptom was a horrible burning sensation inside after sex with nothing else, so I was clueless. Luckily I had my yearly around that time and asked my doctor...who knows how long I would have dealt with it! Here is what another website says:

What are the signs and symptoms of bacterial vaginosis?

Women with BV may have an abnormal vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor. Some women report a strong fish-like odor, especially after intercourse. Discharge, if present, is usually white or gray; it can be thin. Women with BV may also have burning during urination or itching around the outside of the vagina, or both. However, most women with BV report no signs or symptoms at all.

Anyway, he prescribed metronidazole and it cured it so I'd say check with your doctor and see what he/she says. Good luck!

I know this sounds strange but you may be having an allergic reaction to your hubbys semen. You do need to look into this, I would talk to your OBGYN.

If it's not an infection, it's most likely a lack of lubrication. There are many causes--lack of sufficient arousal, hormones, birth control pills, allergy or sinus meds( if it dries out your mouth, it dries out vaginal tissue), fatigue, stress, diabetes, chemotherapy, the list goes on. Try a good lubricant (not KY---it dries out quickly) and see if it helps. If it doesn't, you may have to look further for the cause.

I experienced this while I was nursing my twins. When I saw the gyn, she said that while nursing you're producing more progesterone and not as much estrogen and that can dry you out down there. Then with the friction of sex, this can cause the burning sensation. I had to use a topical estrogen cream everyday and KY lubricant during sex. Now it's been 2 months since I finished nursing and I don't need the cream or lubricant anymore and the burning has just about disappeared. I'm not sure if you're nursing now or not, but you may check your estrogen levels.

This may be TMI for some women, but I will throw it out there. After my hubby and I make love, I sometimes have the sensation you are talking about. It happens when my hubby stimulates my G-spot. (I know this is a controversial subject, whether G-spots actually exist, but trust me-I have one!) It's likely he is stimulating yours, and that can lead to the sensation that you talk about. It is very uncomfortable, I know, and very much like a UTI. I find that soaking in a tub and letting the water kinda get in that region helps quite a bit. Other than that, I don't know what else it could be, besides some sort of infection, but in that case, it would continue to get worse and not go away without medication. So I don't think that even after a day or two you would feel any relief if it is in fact an infection. Sorry. Good luck though.

Although many of the ideas that have been presented are likely the most common possibilities and ones that are most likely to be looked for by doctors, there is a possibility that seems to be commonly overlooked. Your issue could be something as simple as the pH of your husband's semen. But, I am going to bring up a possibility that is far less likely to be your issue. I just feel it would be negligent of me to not mention it just in case it is possible that you need to consider it.

In the early 1990's there were reports on the news about what was called Desert Storm Syndrome. There was much conjecture about what our men and women in uniform were exposed to that caused the various symptoms. Some doctors felt it was caused by the experimental vaccines these soldiers received. Some doctors theorized it was due to the aspartame in the diet sodas sitting in the desert heat, because aspartame undergoes a chemical change and becomes a significant neuro-toxin when exposed to higher temperatures. Similar symptoms were again reported in 2002-3 among soldier sent to Iraq. Some doctors and environmentalists suggested the syndrome was caused by exposure to the nuclear dust in the air in the areas of southern Iraq that was created by the nuclear waste that the US put in the tips of the missiles we had been dropping on southern Iraq on a weekly basis for 10 years.

Many symptoms reported at those times were a variety of auto-immune disorders. But, among the problems reported were not experienced by the soldiers, buy by their wives who experienced burning and vaginal discomfort for either hours or days following intercourse. As I recall, this was not reported by women when condoms were used, but by women who either used other means of birth control or none at all. The real problem was not the discomfort, but the variety of ways it affected the health of these women. Some women miscarried, some had to have hysterectomies, some developed devastating diseases.

I knew one woman who complained of these symptoms, but the cause was never identified. Eventually, she would also develop cysts in various parts of her body for days following sex. After 6 months she developed spinal problems that became quite serious. Her partner had already been a widow and I have to wonder if his semen might have also been the cause of his first wife's death as well.

So, I don't know if your husband is in the military or could possibly have been exposed to some toxic element under some other circumstance. I just felt I should mention this to you because the woman I knew and her doctors never even considered that the development of her health problems could have been related to the burning she experienced after intercourse. She never even told the doctors treating her spinal problem about the vaginal issue. It did not come to light until she died and her diary told us that she was wondering about whether or not these issues were related.

One thing I do know is that these issues have not been well investigated and are under-reported in the news. I just recommend you consider all the possibilities and pay attention to other health issues. You might consider asking your husband to have a complete blood work-up and ask for a liver tox screen.

Good luck!

I see alot of the other ladies also said the same thing I thought, which is you may have an allergic reaction to your husbands semen. If your using condoms them maybe your allergic to the latex? I would contact your Gyn and discuss this because you don't want it to get worse, and you have a right to enjoy making love with your husband, you don't want it to be a painful experience. Good Luck

hello, could be a recurrent yeast infection. that said, your husband could have one too (yes guys get em) and even though for example the woman's may clear up (as they often can note whether they have one or not) the guy will often go untreated. you might want to have him checked for one.

I didn't see anyone ask this question, I will. After you have sex, do you go to the bathroom and actually clean up? I've had the same issue you are talking about. It seems to help if I use the bathroom and then use a warm/hot washcloth to clean up. Do you have this problem when you get your yearly checkup at the gyn? I've noticed an issue with the lubricant they use for the test. Usually, the cleanup thing is the same. You should probably ask your dr. After reading some of these answers, it sounds like maybe I should too :)
