I am trying to find a bunk bed mattress for pretty cheap. I tried a regular twin and it is too tall and needs to be shorter than the rails. Does anyone know where I can buy one for cheap...less than $50.

What can I do next?

I don't know where you could get it for that cheap unless you find a used one. but I went to walmart.com and they had one for 70 or 80. I got it for the top bunk and it's perfect.....not so thick and tall so it lays well in the top bunk but it's still soft enough for a young kid. I looked all around that was the cheapest I could fine brand new.

Most mattress stores sell thin mattresses. I've bought a 3' or so foam one from Sears or J.C. Penny many years ago. I think it would be more than $50 now, tho.

Have you looked at thrift stores? They are required by law to fumigate them. You can look on Craig's list and Free Cycle. If you pick it up you can get an idea about the cleanliness of their home and thus the mattress.

Boy...that price point might be tough to find. I know Ikea sells a number of thinner, decent quality mattresses (suitable for bunk beds) starting at $69.99. www.ikea.com Best wishes.
