Bumps on Son's Upper Leg

My three-year-old son has had the never ending cold for the past two months -- cough, runny nose (mainly when outside and in morning). Today he has some weird looking bumps on the upper part of his thigh. They look sort of like little pimples. I have no idea what they are. He isn't bothered by them. Is it worth a trip to the doctor? Rashes are so annoying!

What can I do next?

as to the cold, milk produces a lot of phlegm. So cutting that out can help. Grape juice is great to help get rid of phlegm. I learned this while singing in a choir.

i would take him to the doctor if they have a white head it might be chicken pox.

I think the posts you have are probably right, but I am really going to stress that you have them looked at. I don't want to alarm, but my daughter had similar "pimple" looking bumps on her legs - not a lot of them, just a few. I thought they were spider bites or chicken pox or something. We went to the doctor, and they did a skin scrape biopsy and tested her for a few different things. Because they didn't seem to bother her at all, and weren't anywhere on her trunk or face or arms, they tested her. In the end, and after seeing a few pediatric dermatologists as well, they discovered it is a skin condition and we took care of it. Who knew a few little bumps were so difficult to diagnose and I am so glad we didn't just wait it out anymore.

I am hoping, like I said, that the other posts are right and it's dry skin or heat rash. No harm in having a doctor look at them.

Good luck!

I would call the Dr. most will tell you over the phone what it could be. Luckily, my Dr's office has nurses answering phones just for such a request/concern. It could be cold related or something else. I say call.

If they don't itch I am betting it is dry skin. My daughter gets them on her thigh and upper arms. Just put lotion/aqua phor on them. If a rash isn't all over or seeming to bother them more then likely is is viral if it is something besides dry skin and they cannot do anything for them.

The bumps are perfectly normal. I would say they are from dry skin, with the weather changing like it is his skin is probably just dry and needs a little tlc. Have you checked into allergies with your sons cold? Sounds to me like that is not a cold but allergies which is very common in Colorado and this time of year. I have three boys that seems like they have a cold from the time spring starts until summer is in full swing. I give them allergy meds appropriate to their ages. Good luck : )

You might see if they go away with a half dose of Benadryl. We just took my son in recently for hives and the doctor said the most common cause in rare episodes of hives is virus related. What you're describing doesn't sound like hives, but it's safe to try.

The rash it's self could just be from heat rash or something but that combined with the cold.. I'd call the doc to be on the safe side. Maybe its as simple as allergies and heat rash but it may be something that needs treated too...
