We took our regular bumpers out nd bought the breathable ones. YOu can get them on amazon.
Hi! Our almost 5 month old son has been turning from his back to his stomach, which is great, but he still can't get himself back onto his back so this will wake him up several times in the evening or during naps. We're dealing with the exhausting task and looking forward to getting back to a normal sleep schedule when he can get himself around. But my question is about BUMPERS! We have a very thin bumper in his crib which we have been using since Day 1. Most people are surprised that we even use one. So, seeing how he is getting more mobile, we decided to try and go without the bumper today. So we took it off and laid him down to see what he would do and he obviously loved looking out and seeing us and his room, etc. But, his foot got stuck, his head kept banging against the wooden rail and I nearly passed out! I want to put the bumper back on and my husband said he's fine and not to worry. Well, I'm a mother, I worry! Thoughts? Help? please and thank you!!

Yes, breathable bumper the way to go! Look online at this website, it's great for many things - I couldn't live without it.

(My daugter is two now and I still use a soft bumper because she moves around a lot, but she is happier when I take it off to wash it because she can see around - but she gets her foot caught. Since I am thinking of moving her to a toddler bed very soon, I'm not going to spend the $ on a breathable bumper, but that would have been the best thing to do for her a long time ago.)
Hi, J..
My daughter is about to turn one in two weeks and I never used a crib bumper.
Sure, she rolls around in the middle of the night and sometimes accidentally kicks or hits her head against the slats, which worried me because 1) I thought she would get seriously hurt and 2) I thought it would wake her.
I've found she has never been bruised or hurt when she's done this and she's often slept right through what sounds like her ramming into the crib. It really sounds worse than it actually is.
Don't worry so much. Wait until you child becomes mobile: crawling and then walking. There is so much more to actually worry about then! Your baby is pretty safe in the crib.
All the best,
E.
Hi J., you can try a breathable bumper. We got our from babies R Us. They're very thin and still keep all limbs in the crib. Good luck!
My daughter is almost 18 months and I still have the bumper in her crib. I have heard that when they start standing on it to try and get out of the crib, that's when you should take it out. She rolls around so much and ends up squished up against the side all the time, she would not sleep without the bumper there to pad the sides of the crib! I say if he likes it, leave it in!
