Bug Bites, Help Please!

So for the past few weeks my poor daughter has been getting bit, by what I have no idea, and have been going crazy trying to figure out what it is.

We had some family in from out of town a month and a half ago, when they were here they mentioned fleas in their home. Ugh! Anyway we have no pets, and having had a no pets flea experience a few years back. It totally got me upset again.

I have been crazy vacumming and have used table salt on the carpet and vacummed it up. I have not seen anything in the house, but she gets bites on her hands, which is the only uncovered part on her lower body since she had jammies on.

The bites on her hands, yes both hands! :( got so swollen we had to go to the doctor and get medicine to get the swelling to go down. They said she had a mild allergic reaction to an insect bite. They also said there is no way to tell what kind of bug is biting her.

The only thing I have seen is one possible flea in the car a couple weeks ago after which I went crazy cleaning, vacumming, and spraying the car and washing her carseat. Then in the house I have seen some spiders, but nothing else in the home.

I just need some advice, support, help, something....
I feel like I am losing it over bugs, which I know is not a big deal, but I hate that they keep biting my little girl. :(
Anyone else's child getting attacked?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses everyone! So nice to have any support, It's been driving me crazy trying to figure things out.

Bed bugs was actually my first thought, we had an exterminator come out and installed these climbup things that catch them, and thankfully NOTHING was found either way!

I have gotten several bites on my legs that seem like maybe a mosquito bite, but its really hard to tell as it obviously could be fleas as well. I am just upset my poor daughter keeps getting bit and that she has such a reaction to the bites.

Again thanks everyone for the support!!!

Get some Avon Skin-So-Soft, orginal scent. It repells and kills fleas. It actually works well to repel all knds if bug bites.

If you do bug bomb your home be sure that any and all pilot lights are off. Bug bombs can explode your house if any flame is present.

Also --- baking soda paste (baking soda + water) helps with the itch and swelling from bug bites.

Check your dryer lint trap. That's often where fleas end up 'stuck' and just hang out. .

Fleas can live for up to 6mo with no host... So seriously consider bombing your house.

Some tips:
1. Try not to use fragranced products that may attract bugs in summer.
2. Wash hands well before bed of any sticky fruits that may have been eaten before bed (our bedtime snack :))
3. put some fragrance free moisturizer on her hands at nite....perhaps as a lite shield against anything that wants to bite.

Since you have no pets, then they should die out. Without the proper host they can not reproduce effectively. That said..they still can reproduce so you may want to take a trip to your local PetSmart. They should have flea remedies for the house.

Since the bites are happening while she's in bed..vacuum her bed and her floor.

But you are not alone, we have 3 cats and for some reason my daughter is delicious. It's a battle.

Bugs love me so I have plenty of experience with being bitten. ;ol

Fleas get into clothing and like to bite in tight places, along an elastic waistband for example. They also bite several times and you might see a trail of bites in a row. If they are living in the carpet, you might get a bite or two on the lower leg as they jump up for a taste and then back off to wait for the next warm body to come by.

Bites on areas exposed at night might be from a lone mosquito. Especially if there are just one or two bites each night, there may be a mosquito hanging out in the bedroom, getting it's daily meal while you sleep and then hiding til the next night.

Spider bites often look like 2 red dots from their 2 fangs. yuck.

Best product I've found to relieve the itching and swelling of bug bites is Benadryl gel. I really slather the stuff on and the bites seem to dry up and go away faster.

are you sure your guests didn't have bed bugs when they came to visit you? We just had a 6 month long battle with them. We are finally bed bug free. I was the only one getting bitten and they were itchy red bumps on my hands and feet. Bed bugs are not easy to find either. Call out an exterminator and just have them check. It doesn't cost anything for them to come out. My landlord didn't tell me that they had them when we moved into this house. I was not happy about it, but I am thankful for exterminators that can get rid of them :) message me if you have any questions about them. They are nasty things and I even kept my house spotless! The exterminator even said I have the cleanest house he has ever seen!

Sounds like spiders and not flea's.

My one dd one year was constantly being bit, not sure but what but is was bad because she would always have bad reactions to it. We finally starting putting bug repellent on her. It was the only thing that worked, her doctor was fine with it. It wasn't ideal, but it was better then the other option.

Eventually we bombed the house, and that pretty much stopped everything. We have a lot of pets so it took time trying to find homes for all of them for a day, that's the only reason we didn't do it sooner.
