Hi Moms,

I have a very unusual situation with my niece and nephew ages 2 & 3. They have a weird skin problem. That is causing them to bruise and bleed very easy with just a little fall a scrape turns into a big blister. A bad fall turns into a deep and bloody cut. It breaks my heart to see them going thru this. I’m not sure if it a hereditary disease, the kids are mix they are White & Hispanic, we have never seen anything like this. There doctor tells my sister that its nothing for her just be careful with them. I am tacking him to see my doctor to get a second opinion but till them I need to be able to understand the condition if its a disease does it have a cure ect.

Like your other post, my first thought was, it could be Leukemia but... has the doctor done any blood tests? An unusually high white blood count can indicate a concern.. or any concerns with their iron levels too. (anemia?) Do they complain of any knee/joiint pain? Are they on any kind of medicine which can cause some bruising?

Certainly doesn't sound normal and I would absolutely seek a second opinion. You don't know if it is a disease, yet, because your doctor hasn't given it a name. It could be a peculiar thing that happens to these children where there wouldn't be a cause for concern. Without further testing - you don't have all the concerns ruled out.

Good luck and please update us.

A little boy I know was bruising easily and it turned out to be Leukemia. I think a second opinion is a good idea. On the other hand, my son, who is white and very light skinned used to shock the hispanic moms we know with his bruises around the time he was learning to walk. They gasped and said they weren't used to seeing so many bruises, but they realized it was because every little bump is visible on his skin. I hope your niece and nephew are healthy and happy. They're lucky to have you for their aunt.

It could also be a blood-clotting issue like hemophilia. I would ask the doctor to check for that as well.

Certainly does not sound normal. Like Natalie, my cousin (when she was little)was bruising excessively. Turned out to be leukemia. But the good news is, she is fine. She's 28 now and living a great life. Hope your niece and nephew are ok. Prayers for your family!
