I unfortunately experienced something very similar recently. My son was going down the slide and a larger child who did not wait his turn came right behind him. The sole of his shoe got stuck on the side of the slide as he was coming down and was further lodged when the older child came down on top of him. He suffered a spiral fracture to the tibia. This may be a little different since he was 2 1/2 at the time and your son is not yet 2. We set him up with a couple of stations- one in the living room and one in his room. We have a breakfast in bed tray we used and a cushion with arms (sold in bed bath and beyond about $19) to keep him comfy. Gave him crayons and his favorite character coloring book, practiced flashcards (number recognition), colored, played with play dough, sat him near his blocks and allowed him to do as much as he possibly could. I allowed him to put on his clothes as best as he could. His sister was also old enough to entertain him while I was preparing food. Since his cast was thigh high, it was difficult for him to walk at first, but nothing keeps an active boy down. We also taught him to scoot around on his bottom to get around short distances. He was up and running again by the next week. And of course there's always videos. You can also try crafts found online. If he is usually too active to participate in those activities, this would be the perfect time to introduce some other things you've been wanting to try. Hope this helps.
