P.K.
Quit feeling guilty! You can't help it! Depending on their ages, they can start dinner, do laundry etc. I was critically ill when my kids were young. They learned to do everything and in the end created very self sufficient kids.
Hi! I'm new here and looking for some advice. I have a broken foot and will be on crutches for the next 8 weeks. My husband has been amazing and is doing everything that needs to be done. But, I'm feeling guilty because I haven't been able to do anything with or for the kids. Does anyone have any advise on things I can do while being off my feet?

Read to the kids, color with them, sit at the table and do the prep work for dinner, fold laundry, do your taxes, look over the budget, and say, "THANK YOU," and "I love you" and "I appreciate you so much" t your sweet husband a LOT.
Feel better soon!
Get a back back so you transport things. When you are on crutches, you also loose the use of your hands since your hands are using the crutches. It really stinks!!!
Feel better!
I am sorry to hear about your foot. I was bed ridden for 5 days with an ankle issue and used crutches to only go to the bathroom and they were worse than my ankle... I almost killed myself with crutches!!!
If I knew I had to have crutches long term, I'd get one of those walked things that you prop your leg on and then push yourself everywhere. A lot safer for me at least!!!
Get well soon.
I soooooooooooooo feel you! I broke my foot 6 weeks ago, but like a total dummy waited 5 weeks to go to the dr :( I'm in a boot for 3 weeks, then surgery if I'm not healed. I'm grateful for the boot, I was on crutches after knee surgery and it was WAY worse... that said, have your husband bring you a basket of clotehs to fold, you can pay bills, plan meals, etc. I feel like you NEED to do something, not b/c you need to, but b/c you aren't comfortable doing "nothing"(though you're not doing nothing, you're healing!). hang in there, it's not gonna be fun, but it will pass.
Can you get a scooter crutch?
I've seen adults and kids get around pretty well with those things.

Read to them!
If your doctor thinks wearing a walking boot would be okay, I'd recommend that. I broke my foot a year ago and was sent home with crutches. After a week of being home with my young kids, I called up and asked for a boot...it was a major improvement.
No need to feel guilty about it. You have a broken foot. It can't be helped. You aren't doing it on purpose. You have a broken foot.
I work at a school. I have seen both Teachers and kids, with broken legs or foot. They are on crutches. They are still doing stuff and coming to school or teaching everyday. But they are on crutches. So their hands are not able to carry things because they are on crutches. So others help them carry things etc. and assist them.
Borrow a wheelchair and get around in it as much as possible. It was a godsend for me when I tore ligaments and tendons in my foot. The crutches just about killed me.
Have you looked into getting one of those push cart things to push yourself around the house while not being on your feet? You kneel on it, so the weight isn't on your foot. A friend did this so she could fix lunch for the kids, etc.
So you can have more mobility, (sorry, I'm not for letting you lie around all day, just joking), did you know there are "knee walkers"? The are like a scooter where you bend your knee and you literally stand on your knee, it rolls around where-ever you need to go. It has handle bars for stability.
However, if you have a multi-level house and stairs, they aren't so useful. Two of my patient's used theirs when they had had foot surgery and fracture.
Just an idea, as crutches are often limiting.
Get well soon!
Of course you can "milk" the situation as long as you want. (tee hee).
