HI Moms!!!

I recently purchased a Britax Decathalon (I assume it is a 2008 or 2009 model) and installed it yesterday. My questions are I noticed that the crotch buckle seems soooo short? Did I do something wrong? I have it rear facing and I moved it up to the middle position (which they say you can only have it in the 1st or 2nd position not the 2rd for rear facing) it seems very hard to get at it to buckle my daughter in and out!! Alomsot like it need to be an inch longer so it is located more infront of her pelvis. Also I noticied on this carseat on the right side that there is a tether bolted to the base on the right side that is attached to the right side buckle of the latch system by a loop. Is this so that we don't take the latch system belts off of the carseat and are required to store it under the seat if it is not in use? I am using the latch system and just wondered why this extra loop of material is around the belt of the latch system that I am suppose to get super tight? Also they say we can take the HUGS off if the baby is real facing has anyone done this?? Any advice would be very helpful!! Thanks!

What can I do next?

We have 2 britax marathons for our kids and love them. I would recommend looking up places in your area to have it professionally installed if you're having trouble. We had trouble getting ours in correctly rear-facing (we couldn't get the angle right), but we had it professionally done and it is in there so tight, it's perfect. It doesn't cost anything to have done and it does make a big difference. I'm sure they can also answer your questions about the straps and the buckles.
Good luck.

We have a Decathalon. We bought it 4+ years ago, its been a while since its been rear facing. We never used the LATCH system. Its only good up to so many lbs, and I always preferred the seat belt method.

We also have a Marathon for my daughter and I do agree with the other response that Britax straps are shorter than most. Much shorter than the Graco Infant seat we used when the babies were newborns. The Britax took some getting used to. Now my son is 37 lbs and still in the Britax Decathalon. He fits just fine.

As far as the HUGS system goes...I'm not sure what you mean. All Britax models come with the extra removable padding on the shoulder straps and the belly pad.

Our Decathalon came with two additional pads that go under baby. Those pads are designed to make the seat more snug for newborns and infants. By the time we bought our Decathalon our son was 6 months old and 20+ lbs. Those under baby pads are to be removed as your child gets older and bigger. We started with only one of the under baby pads. And within 3 months we had to remove it.

If you are still unsure, call Britax. I have called them multiple times and have always received excellent customer service. OR, you can have your car seat inspected by the Police Department.

I don't have the Decathalon but I do have a Boulevard, and I think that all Britax have a very short buckle. I thought it was problematic at first, but I've since gotten used to it (I have two children in them), and it seems that you have to have the shouler/arm straps appropriately adjusted to make this work. As long as your baby is comfortable, it should be okay.

Hi, E..

We have a Britax Marathon. We've never used it rear facing, but I believe that extra tether is to get the seat to lean back enough, so the baby doesn't slump over when she's sleeping.

I wish I'd known you can get it professionally installed for free. I would have done that. :)
