Breathable Crib Bumper

Hi Moms! I was wondering if anyone out there has one of those breathable crib bumpers. My little one is 20 mos old, and my origional crib bumper has shrunk some and doesn't fit properly anymore. I am considering replacing it with a breathable bumper so that it keeps her arms and legs from going through the slats, but also thinking of the future and thinking it looks like it wouldn't be much help giving her leverage when she starts trying to climb out. I was wondering if anyone has this type of bumper and if it collapses when stood on as to not boost baby a few inches when learning to escape. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi, I have a daughter that is almost 20 months old, and we had breathable mesh bumpers from day 1. Gabby is very tall and she hopped out of her crib with no help from the bumpers so about 2 months ago i guess, we bought the tent from One Step Ahead. We have a crib with a higher back but we jerry-rigged and it works bc it's mesh to protect their arms and feet and it also keeps her IN the crib bc I'm not ready to convert her crib and drop the one rail. So you may want to skip the breathable bumper all together if you think she is going to take flight :). Good luck!

I have this bumper & there is no way it will give my baby any added leverage or added inches to vault herself out of the crib in the future. It is completely "collapsable"/flimsy when pushed on from the top. That said, it is perfect for the reason we use it: it keeps her arms & legs out of the spaces between the bars.

I bought a breathable bumpers and they are great. My son can not use them to stand on, they smush down when he puts his feet on them and he can not get any leverage. They are great for not letting little arms and legs go through the slats and he can breathe through it if he plants is face next to it.

I have one and love it. My daughter's only 10 months, but it does collapse when she stands on it. Our bedding set included the pretty bumper, so I just tied that one on the outside of the crib as decoration. Good luck!

I used one with my first and will use it again with my second. Mine came from Babies R Us and it's been great. It does collapse so they can't stand on it to climb out.
Once they start rolling around, the other bumpers can be dangerous. My breathable bumper gave me great peace of mind, knowing that she could still breath if she got up against it. It's a must-have in my opinion.

Hi!! I do have a the breathable bumper and love it!! Yes it does collapse when stood on...my little guy as tried several times..lol!!! However, it does slide down easier than a reg bumper so his leg has gotten stuck a time or two in the crib slats. I just make sure that it is stretched as tight as can be when I lay him down. Hope this works for you!!

I used the breathable bumper with my 2nd and loved it. It is definitely collapsable so no need to worry about standing on it like most bumpers. My 2 yr old is a climber so after the bumper came off we put up a tent. He was scaling his crib (w/no bumpers at all) by 17mths. YIKES>

I used a breathable bumper after the regular one. No problems. For the same reason of keeping arms in and it will not help her climb out. It is thin and soft and will just squish down if stepped on.

I'm not a fan of the breathable bumpers because my son is an active sleeper (like most toddlers) and they still allowed him to slam body parts against the slats (waking him up more often). I like the ones that individually wrap around each slat.

As for climbing, my son's been climbing out of his crib since 16mos, lowered all the way, no bumpers, no help. Where there's a will, there's a way :)

at 20 months old, do you still need a bumper?

It might not be a bad idea for your little one to start to learn how to keep their arms/legs from getting tangled, and if they do they can learn to get them back out.

Good luck!

We have used the breathable bumper for both our daughters and it worked pretty well. They definitely can't get the leverage to climb out of the crib. It was worth the money spent on it.

I got one last year. My son was almost 2, so he didn't NEED one. We just used one as a way of keeping his binky's in the crib. lol

I really like it though. And he never used it as a "step" but even if he tried to, like you said, there's not much padding, so it wouldn't be of much assistance.
