I am currently 18 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. My 2 year old still nurses in the morning and before bed. I am not looking to be judged, so please don't tell me that I need to wean my 2 year old. I am looking for other folks that have nursed while pregnant! I read that nipple/breast soreness while pregnant is normal. I'm wondering how long it lasts though. Sometimes when he latches on, I feel like he's stabbing me in the chest. Other times, it doesn't hurt at all. Any info would be helpful, thx.

Hi K.,
Congratulations! I have a 25 month old and a 7 month old and I bf my older daughter the whole time I was pg w/ my 2nd daughter. I had no issues during the pregnancy what so ever and had a healthy 8 lb 5 oz baby girl at 40 wks. I did have the tender nipple and I want to say that it finally went away sometime during the 2nd trimester. I was able to feed whenever my older daughter needed to eat prior to turning 1 yr and was bf'ing for naps and bedtime after that. My dr did want me to stop around 35 weeks, but I was having an uneventful text book pregnancy, I didn't feel it was necessary to stop (I told him this too). My 1st pregnancy was also an uneventful text book pregnancy which lasted 40 wks and 3 days. Have you tried bf'ing laying down on the bed? That really helped me. GL!

I did so with the first two pregnancies. I was nursing my son, and only nursing. I stopped when he was a year old because I heard after about 6 months or so nursing could cause contractions (premature) and I was scared to harm the baby. Then after the baby was born, the toddler still got a little (pumped) breast milk.

I did not have soreness problems beyond the first few weeks of pregnancy.
Good luck with your babies!

Hi K., I nursed for the first 8 months of my last pregnancy...so it can be done! Granted I was nursing a 6-12 month old during my pregnancy so I imagine the sucking power was much less then a 2 year old! I would say since your 2 year old has benefited from breast milk for two years (which is awesome you have done it so long!) its your turn now to have a easy and confortable pregnancy, so maybe its the perfect time to start weaning him, your body needs all the nutrients it can get for you and that growing baby. At this point your 2 year old is probably doing it more for comfort than food. Honestly I contemplated not nursing because I was concerned about my nutrition during pregnancy but my daughter was just too young to stop breastmilk so I keep going till a month before my son was born. If you do decide to keep nursing just ask your doctor ifs its OK because for some women nursing can carry risk during pregnancy. Good luck!

I nursed my oldest until she was 15 months and I was two months into my second pregnancy. I had to stop only because it was draining me. My neighbor was still nursing her 18 month old and the doctor told her to stop because her unborn baby needed more from her body. I think each body and child are different. NEVER feel bad or the need to apologize for choices you make for your kids...you are their mommy and know best :). So I think that it just depends on what your body is telling you. If you are getting sore, can you use Lansinol or something to ease some of the pain? Or ice packs or hot showers? Do any of the tricks for new nursing pains help now? I'm not sure since my daughter stopped 2 months into it for me, but like I said - each person is different. Maybe just ask your doctor. Make sure the baby is getting enough nutrients too, but I'm sure they would have told you if that was a problem. I hope the pain goes away and congratulations on another baby :).
