I have a son who I still nurse, and just found out I was pg. Can I continue w/self-weaning or do I need to push him to stop now? He only nurses usually 2x a day, sometimes once. It hurts a lot when he first latches on, but then it's fine. Is it ok for the baby or can it cause problems?
I continued nursing my daughter (about 2x) per day while pregnant with number 2 so that she could self-wean. I was about 5-6 months pregnant when she did give up nursing on her own. I also had pain when she first latched on, but this let up after the first trimester. Good luck!
My daughter was 7 months old when I found out I was pregnant. I was simply too exhausted in that 1st trimester to nurse all day, so I started weaning and 3 months later stopped nursing all together at 10 months.
Do what feels natural to you, and if you continue, keep up your fluids and (healthy) calorie intake. Enjoy 2 little ones close in age--it's great!
It is absolutely safe to continue to nurse throughout the pg - unless you have a history of preterm labor, in which case your OB will probably want you to stop no later than the 3rd trimester. If both of you want to continue nursing, then you absolutely should.
I nursed my daughter while pregant too. I was 5mos prego when she self weaned (with a little encouragement from me - I had no milk and it was really uncomfortable). She was 2 years old.
