Hi,
I was wondering how often do any of you breastfeed your 10 month old. I breastfed my other son but I can not remember how often at this age. Right now he nurses in the morning and at night and has 2 to 3 ozs of expressed milk at daycare at lunch. He is totally on table foods, he is a great eater. He also drinks 3ozs of juice at daycare and water as needed both of these out of a cup. Any advice would be great. THANKS
sounds to me like hes eating the right amount. my son will be 1 year in 3 weeks, and i still cant get him to eat
table food. He barely eats his babyfood. So it sounds to me from the advice I have gotten from my lactation consultant, he is on the right track.

At that age, all four of my children nursed about 5 times a day. When they wake up (Breakfast), at Lunch time, snack time, dinner, and bedtime. If he's eating solids and drinking juice, then nursing 5 times a day is plenty.
Congratulations on having two boys together. My boys are 2 years apart and they are the best of friends. They are now 9½ and 7½ and they just love each other. My oldest has written papers at school talking about how his brother is his best friend. When they win a candy at school, they make sure they can pick two so they can bring one home to their brother! It's awesome. In about four years, they will be able to solve all their arguments with 'Rock, Paper, Scissors'! I was going to have three children, but after I had my number 3 - I needed to give her a buddy too!
Enjoy the Love they share! Your job is to encourage it.

My son nursed 6 or 7 times a day at that age, I started weaning him at 10mths, he was only eating gerber stage 3 and nursing. I would say nurse as much as you want or if he is eating other food you can start weaning him. You do what is comfortable for you and him.

Doesn't sound like you need any advice! Sounds like you and your son are doing great! My daughter is almost 14 months and I still nurse her twice a day. I never pump (and haven't since she was 10 months) so if, for some reason, I miss a feeding I just wait. She drinks, from a cup, whole milk at lunch and dinner and water with snacks, no juice at all. And she eats whatever we eat.

My 13 month old still nurses about 5 or 6 times during the day and throughout the night as much as he wakes up. If he isn't feeling well or teething (as is the case right now), we nurse a lot more often. You can't give a breastfed baby too much milk. If my son asks for milk or is fussy, I always offer him milk before food.

My daughter is breastfed 4 times a day. Around 6:30-7, 12, 4, and 7:30. She is a great eater as well. While teething a few weeks ago, when it was really bad, I would nurse her in the middle of the night. If you can express more milk I would replace the juice with milk.

Every baby is different and what your little one needs will be different then anyone elses or any other children that you have. If he is happy only nursing 2-3 times a day, don't push him to nurse more. It will just make it easier to ween him when that time comes. Also, since he is nursing, you have no idea how much he is getting in those feedings. He could be getting 8oz per feeding compared to a baby that is only getting 4-6oz per feeding 4 times a day which means that they are basically getting about the same amount of milk. As long as he is healthy and growing, do what works for you and don't worry about what everyone else does. If you would like the comparison, my oldest stopped nursing around 10 months and then took 2-3 6oz bottles on top of table foods until we took the bottle away at about 13 months. My second stopped nursing just before she turned 1 and we slowly started nursing less and less around 10 months to start the weening process. No bottles after we stopped nursing, just sippy cups with milk or juice.

my baby is 10 months old now. he breastfeeds at least 4 times a day, and probably 3 times at night! BUT, my oldest had weaned himself by 7 months and probably had more like 4 or 5 bottles or cups/day. every baby is different. if he is thriving and getting enough fat from other sources, he should be ok.

I'm pretty sure at that age my daughter was nursing around 6 times a day (day and night). I do remember that around that age she suddenly stopped nursing unless it was time to sleep for awhile because she was very distracted, but then after a week or so she started making up for it at night, then eventually evened out again and nursed mostly during the day. Really if you and your son are both happy with the way things are going, I wouldn't worry.

Hello,
I nurse my 10 month old 4-5 times a day. He doesn't take any formula or juice. He will occassionally drink water from a cup. Hopes this helps.

It is so hard to remember from one baby to the next, I think! I usually fed my babies when they 'asked' or seemed fussy. I wasn't a set schedule nursing mom so maybe that doesn't help. Any breastmilk is beneficial and if your baby is a good eater with table food, sounds like you are lucky enough to just follow his lead.

I have a 10 month old boy and he nurses before his two naps, before bed and right when he wakes in the morning. Also, he nurses as needed throughout the day if he bumps his head, falls down or is upset for any reason etc. He nurses more than your son solely because I'm with him all day. It sounds like your little guy is doing great. If he is eating well, I'd say he is on the right track!
