I asked a question recently about my 7 month old biting while breastfeeding. He quit biting but he broke my skin when he either bit me or his teeth dug in me while nursing. I'm really sore and there is a lump and a blister (not filled with water but something that doesn't look good). It hurts SO BAD when I nurse. There is no broken skin now but still hurts like you wouldn't believe. Any suggestions?
This is my fifth baby to breastfeed and my others nursed until age two, so this is a totally new situation for me.... OUCH!!! Thanks so much!

I think you probably have an infection. I would get to the DR asap. You probably need antibiotics :(
Hi Jaimee, I am sorry to hear that and I can imagine how painful it is. Can you skip that side for nursing, as in cut the no. of feedings from that side until it heals or doesn't hurt that much.
Use lansinoh cream very often and always keep it moisturized.
If it doesn't get better, talk to a lactation consultant at the hospital. I think you can call the hospital you gave birth at for the contact information of their lactation consultants. Most hospitals have nurses who are trained in lactation issues or lactation consultants attached.
Sounds infected sorry to say :( Since you are a pro at this I assume you are realizing that this lump and blister is not ordinary and needs to be seen to by a pro. Maybe go to a prompt care facility today for an antibiotic...

You probably should pump that side until its fixed.
It sounds to me like you may have mastitis (an infection) especially if you start to notice that that breast is hot to the touch or has read streaking. I had it twice with my daughter in the first few months of nursing and it is painful. Unfortunatly you have to nurse to clear but you can also get an Rx for an antifungal. So I would seek medical attention ASAP as this could also turn into an infection for your son (thrush) which is horrible to deal with as well. www.kellymom.com is great resource for breastfeeding and they have a lot of information about mastitis and thrush. Mastitis would be accompanied by cold/flu symptoms. Are you having any of those? Mastitis often is preceded by a plugged duct too - have you had any of those? If not, I'd say it's probably just a sore from being bitten. Thrush usually doesn't have any lump/blisters, just pain. I know one way to figure out what is going on is when it hurts. I know you say it hurts when nursing, but does it hurt after he's done too? I don't remember what to conclude though from when it hurts.
If you are going to stop nursing on that side, definitely pump - if you can pump enough to keep it drained. Drastically changing how much is getting expressed will lead to plugged ducts/mastitis. If you don't have a good alternative, it may be best to just keep nursing on that side while putting ice packs/lansinoh on afterwards.Breastmilk itself is supposed to be good for healing sores too.
