I did the same thing with my son and used Avent bottles. He never had a problem going back and forth between the bottle and the breast. I plan on using the Avent again with out next child. They were great.
Hi, my baby boy is due in May and I am planning on breastfeeding. I breastfed my 3 yr ols until he was 9 months. He switched between bottle(w/ breastmilk) and breast b/c i worked. I am looking into the same thing for the newborn, but there are several new bottles i have thought about trying: The second nature, and The first years-breastflow..also i know a lot of moms have used avent. The 2nd nature have multiple holes like a real nipple, but the breastflow seem to get the baby to learn to latch better and make them work harder. I dont know any special features for the avent bottles. The avent bottles i have seen the nipples seemed hard and long?? I dont want bottle nipples to confuse him or make it too easy so he doesnt want the breast..i have read that some people said that the breastflow bottles leaked but they seem to be most like a real breast. Does anyone have experience with this issue, or have used any of these bottles? i used platex with my older son but he didnt like the bottle much and I am going to need to do both with a 3 yr old and my husnband wants to feed the baby also. Any advice will help.
Thanks,
N.

Hi first off congrats and best wishes to you soon bundle of joy. I used the Avent bottles with my daughter and breastfed her. The one key thing is you should try to breastfeed for at least two weeks before trying a bottle. The Avent bottles worked great for me and my daughter. Also if you ask the Lactation Consultant at the hospital they will tell you alot of helpfull information. Hope this helps you.
I always used advent bottles.Ive found that they resemble the breast more therefore easier feedings.Goodluck.
I have actually found that the gerber nursers are great. The bottles are triangular to make it easier for baby to hold when they get old enough and they can be converted to sippies.
Congrats! Every baby is different as is every mother. What worked for my son didn't work with my daughter. I nursed my boy, who is almost 3, and bottle fed him too. I used the Dr. Brown's bottles with my son and it worked great, but with my daughter, who is almost 6 months, I am having to use the Evenflo Comfi. I thought that I had a toddler and what worked for him would work for my daughter but I was so wrong! Good luck!!
I tried the Avent bottles with my now 6 year old daughter but she would gag on them because the nipple was too long for her. With my now 1 1/2 year old daughter, I used the Playtex Nurser and the Gerber Nurser. She nursed at home and drank from the bottle while at daycare. I bought 1 each of 2 or 3 different types of bottles and let her try each one for several feedings to see if they worked for her before buying a bunch of one type of bottle. You just never know what the baby will prefer. Good luck with it.
N., my baby is 1 1/2 weeks old and I'm breastfeeding him. After the 3rd day of release from the hospital he haden't had a poopy diaper therefore doctor recommended that I supplement after I breast fed him. I was given breastflow bottle from the motherhood store & we love it! I don't have problems with it leaking and he has been taking both my breast and bottle fine.

I did the same thing with my daughter and used Avent bottles. She never had a problem going back and forth between the bottle and the breast. I only had maybe 1 that leaked (out of probably 20 bottles) and as soon as you put a different nipple in it, it was fine. Avent is durable and I loved them (and I'm using the same bottles with my son who is due 6/4/07.) Good luck!
Hey there
When I was breastfeeding and using bottles, I used the Gerber Confort Latch. The nipples on these bottles seem to be the most like a real breast. They are soft and the baby can put a lot of it in the mouth, rather than just the nipple part. These bottles do not have long nipples like the Avent. When the baby is eating it seems to resemble the sam way they latch on and eat at the breast.
Hello N., Congrads first off. I used Playtex nurser system. The nipple moves back and forth has the baby is sucking, just like the breast. I think it represents the breast a whole lot more then the others has. I have three kids and breast fed them all, and used Playtex all three times. I breast fed till 10 months with my youngest, longest i ever have. Well hope this helps. Take Care.
