I nursed both of mine until 20 months or so, my period came back at 8 months with the first and 10 months with the second. Just keep nursing, add extra pumpings in between regular feedings if you feel your supply has dipped. I just read in "THe Nursing Mother's Companion" that the dips in supply usually only last for the first few periods(and it only happens for a few days prior to the period), though it can last longer. It said Calcuim and magnesium supplements may help. You may want to check out the book from the library or google it.

I EBF my son as well and my period came back at just 4 months. 8( I was also worried, but my body kept producing. If your child keeps nursing your body will keep producing. Maybe up your feedings for a couple of days to let your body know that you mean business. 8)

It will come back if you keep nursing. Make sure you stell well hydrated and fed as well.
As Jeannie mentioned, if you can increase the frequency of your feedings, do so... maybe a breastfeeding "vacation"? That is a day or two that you spend with your baby doing not much more than nursing and allowing lots of skin to skin contact.
Occasional dips in production are pretty normal, just don't give up!
Good luck!

I exclusively breastfed all 3 of my children - not pumping, not supplementing - over-supply issues... and I got my period back with all 3 kids between 6-7 WEEKS post-partum.

I don't subscribe to the idea the breastfeeding women don't get their periods - or that they must be nursing less often, or that having your menstrual cycle return reduces supply... not true at all in my case! But I do know it is true for some and there is definite data that it can drop your production.

KEEP NURSING...your supply will pick back up! If you continue to have problems see a lactation consultant.

Totally normal to have a dip in supply while you are menstruating (the more estrogen in your body, the less prolactin). Some women use Domperidone to combat this. You can order it from inhousepharmacy.com and can find out about it from Dr. Jack Newman's (a renowned lactation specialist) website. There's a lot of bad hype and misinformation about it, but I've been using it for over half a year and have nothing but good things to say about it.
