Moms I really need you Guys help on this one (pronto) I went to the dentist & got my wisdom tooth out. I would like to know how long till I can breast feed my poor 3 month old starving Baby! I have some breastmilk in the freezer the problem is that he doesn't take bottle! I already called his Dr I'm waiting on the nurses call I ask the dentist he said I can breast feed him around 8pm, its not even 5pm yet! I was thinking maybe if I pump twice would I be able to feed him the 3 time? Thanks Mom

What can I do next?

You can breastfeed right away... what antibiotics are you on?

The anesthesia you were on is 100% breastfeeding compatible!

Keep offering him the bottle, if he gets hungry enough he will take it eventually. Try having someone other than you offer it to him so your breasts are not close by.

I'd say do what the dentist said. The reason for the time wait is to give your body time to get rid of the anesthetic and any other meds you took. Pumping 3 times doesn't change the length of time it takes for your body to process the anesthetic out of your system.

I'd try feeding her with a bottle. She's more apt to accept the bottle if someone else feeds her.

Keep trying the bottle, or if you have a friend to come over, try having her or your husband give him the bottle without you in the room. The meds do stay in your system a bit so the pumped breast milk is probably the best.

If you're aware enough to type this question, you're probably fine to nurse.

It depends on what you got drug wise. Kelly mom.com has good resources. Also if it was general anesthesia the baby should be fine if you don't feel woozy anymore.

Call a lactation consultant. They know more about breastfeeding and medications than doctors do.

if you had it done under general and you feel fine - no dizziness, etc. you should be fine to nurse right now....

I had dental work done - a root canal - urgh - while I was breast feeding and was nursing 3 or 4 hours later with no ill side effects to my son.

You can spoon the milk into his mouth if he won't take the bottle. It seems like your plan to pump twice and feed the 3rd time is sound. Honestly, if you can't get him to take milk any other way, I would just nurse him despite the fact that he may get a bit of the medication in you. There's nothing worse than a hungry baby.

Find out what medications you were given and call the Infant Risk hotline:

Dr. Hale is the leading pediatric pharmocologist in the world and his center will know better than your oral surgeon what's safe and what's not.

Chances are, you may not have even had to stop BFing anyway and pumping and dumping may not be necessary at all.
