Breast Ligament Pain

I just had my 2nd child a few months ago and ever since the last month or so of my pregnancy I've been having pain in my breasts. At first I thought it was my body preparing for milk production. I was not able to breastfeed so then I thought the pain was from the after-effects of that. But several months later they still hurt.

I had my annual checkup today with my OBGYN and talked to her about it. She is referring me to get a mammogram (I'm 31 so have not had one yet) just to rule out anything serious although she does not feel anything abnormal and I have no family history of breast cancer. But she thinks it is most likely ligament pain. During my pregnancy with my first son one of my breasts grew larger than the other and has stayed that way (yes, its hot. thanks, nature) and that one is hurting somewhat more than the other and this in particular makes her think this.

So she's saying that after the mammogram she'll probably send me to a breast surgeon just to have the imaging results interpreted by a true expert and to talk about the pain but she said one possibility may be surgery. So I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and what, if anything, was done? The pain is increased when I'm not wearing a bra and when I'm working out.

Thanks in advance for sharing your stories!

I am a chiropractor, and have had good experience with patients with similar type pain getting breast massage from a massage therapist. If it is a ligament, they can help massage out some of the scar tissue. You have to be comfortable with someone performing this...so not for the shy or squeamish. No drugs, no surgery. Just a thought. Do not go to massage envy type place for this. Go to a professional in a private clinic. Preferably female therapist (obviously).

Hi There,

I have not had this experience personally, but a friend of mine has just gone through something similar. And her breast was secreting blood. Very scary stuff, but it was not cancer...just 'an angry benign tumor'! (She's in another state, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend her dr!) My mother had breast cancer and beat it so I've been having mammo's since I was 31. I even had a scare where they were going to do surgery to remove something. I went to Dr. Lynn Canavan who's office is in McKinney off of 121. She's one of the best breast specialists in the area. Another place I recommend though I've not been there is Baylor in Plano. They have the MOST up to date equipment and some of the best people working there. I'll keep you in my prayers. :)

I didn't have this happen, but I did have sore boobs when I weaned. Hopefully your doc can rule out anything serious. Don't worry too much, pregnancy does so many weird things to our bodies. I too have the sexy bigger boob on one side thanks to that:)
