I agree too that it is normal. Mine did that a few times. It seemed all or nothing at times though, so be ready for the big one <grin>!
My baby was going almost everyday or every other day and since her last poop which was a week ago she hasnt gone, she passes gas and maybe a tiny little bit shows in her diaper but nothing else, should i worry?

My baby did that when she was 2 months old. I called the doctor and they said it was normal.
5 days is a long time. my son had that issue and it was just how he was built. he is 12 and still doesn't go every day. but it's worth taking your daughter in and having her evaluated. you can use suppositories too on infants. but she can't be comfortable. Nathan at age 3 had to have an enima because he was so backed up. it stretches their bowels and can cause the problem to get worse every time. need to stay regular to shrink the bowels back to normal after passing large poop. sorry for the detail but that's what i was told. as an infant i just started giving prunes. i didn't like doing suppositories. let us know what happens!
I remember going through this with my sons as infants. It always seemed like right at the point where I said, "Okay, if he doesn't poop tomorrow I'm calling the doctor." he would poop. I really don't know anything medically about it, just mom experience. If he doesn't poop tomorrow, call the doctor and ask.
Like the other moms said this is very common. Get concerned if it seems like she's in pain, if she stops eating or if she stops making wet diapers.
If you get really desparate call your doc and ask about using an enema or a stool softener (my mom would take a peice of ivory soap and widdle it into a tiny suppository - worked good for our dog too.)
Totally common and to be expected from breastfed babies. I had quite a few people telling me about this, including professionals. So don't worry about it. I guess the breastmilk is so efficient sometimes there's very little waste.
Although look out when she goes! It may be a doozie!
I had the same concern with my son when he was an infant. After several trips to the doctors office/ER we had an x-ray of his stomach done. There was nothing in there. The doctor stated that the beastmilk was such a perfect match for him that he was aborbing all of it and therefore didn't have anything to poop out. If concerned I would have an x-ray done, as I wasn't relieved until I saw it with my own eyes!
I went through the same thing. I am going to assume you are breastfeeding, which tends to do this. According to La Leche League, babies can go up to 10 days without a BM. Mine went 5 days and then waited another 5 days. My pediatrician said as long as they are passing gas and their stools were loose before, that they shouldn't be constipated. The dr. also said I could give my son a little water after Breastfeeding, but that didn't seem to help at all for him, it was just time. Make sure you have either a bigger diaper on her or another outfit, because when it happens it will be big.
Good Luck and Congrats on your little one.
My daughter went through this too and it is normal. If you think it's too late or she might be constipated, you can try to stimulate BM by taking a small q-tip (i know it seems scary but it works) and put some petroleum jelly on it and place it in her anus and twist it around a little. We had the doctor do it b/c we were scaredy-cats. But it worked, she went the same day.
Just as a heads up for later, she might get constipated when you introduce new foods and you can feed her more water during meals, prunes, or use a sepository. Mine went through that just 2 weeks ago.
I had this suddenly happen to my daughter at 6 months old. It may be an issue. Is she more fussy than usual? Does she have trouble staying asleep? Is her abdomen below belly button hard?
If so she may be constipated. My DD became constipated and it was a re-occuring issue. It turns out that my diet contained too much dairy for her as she was allergic. I cut dairy out of my diet, and supplemented her with some prune juice, with flax oil in it. We struggled for almost a year to keep her regular. Occasionally we still do struggle a bit and she will be 7 this month.
Do not use Mineral Oil, it attaches to the nutrients in your food, and your body cannot absorb them or the mineral oil so you lose most of your nutrients in your stool.
While we struggled to keep her regular, supplementing with prune juice and flax oil helped. She used to stay up till 4am unable to sleep for more than 15 minutes at a time. She used to tear whenever she passed stool. She would cry and cry. To this day she is tense when passing stool if it is hard or not.
Good luck!
