I think I would just go ahead and make an appointment with a dermatologist. If it is already starting to make you worry then it is probably effecting him. I would call.
Moms - need your ideas again ! My son is 11 (12 next week) and is starting to have some skin breakouts - aka ZITS !. We have gone over making sure he is washing his face with soap & water and he is using the Clearsil pads both at night and in the morning. He is getting them really bad right under his nose (ouch), starting to on his chin and forehead. Is there some face wash or cleanser that has worked for you or your kids ? I know this is hormones starting but I hate to see him dealing with this like his dad had to. Of course - if it gets too bad we will have him at the dermatologist. I just want to do what we can and maybe head this off before it gets too bad.
Thanks !!

I've been using Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Skin Care for about 6 or 7 months & my 12 year old son uses it also. It's not as harsh as a lot of other products out there, but it seems to be doing the trick. I get it at Wal-Mart for around $5 a bottle.
I would tell you if he washes his face with soap and water make sure it is ivory. I would say during the middle of the day try the clearasil pads. Do not over dry his skin. I would also say before he goes to bed put some acne medicine where he is having the bad breakouts. make sure he is not putting his hands on his face. watch what he eats also. no soda and make sure he is drinking lots of water. if he does something where he starts to perspire when he is at home make sure he washes his face afterwards or uses the clearasil pads. Best of luck
I totally know how you feel! My 13 year old daughter started getting bad acne once her hormones started kicking in when she was 11. I bought the Clearasil treatment kit that you can buy from Walmart. It is proven to be better than Proactive and cheaper! I had her start using it every night before going to bed and it started working really well. I actually noticed a slight decrease by the next morning. Now it has almost cleared her skin, you just have to keep buying the kit or you can buy the products that go into the kit seperately when it runs low. It is pretty affordable though and I'm happy it works. If it still doesn't work for your son then I would look into making an appointment with a dermatologist that can do more type of treatments. If he is using bar soap or liquid soap that is typically used for washing your hands or taking a shower with then you might want to stop because it will cause the acne to be worse. The Clearasil kit comes with a facewash that my daughter says feels great after using it. Give it a try and hopefully it will prevent a trip to the dermatologist. I hope it works for your son like it did for my daughter and she had it pretty bad even on her back which would be hard to treat because she has allergy bumps mixed in with it but this stuff didn't cause any problems. It was definitely worth the chance! :)
ProActiv.Worked wonders for my son and nephew. They both had it pretty bad.
My 16 yr old step daughter started breaking out like crazy. Her mom tried Mary Kay, Estelauder, and all sorts of stuff.
I am a big advocate of Pro active, love the stuff, it worked great for me. So I went and bought her some, I stood over the entire summer making sure she did everything she was suppose to. Nothing worked. We finally took her to the dermatologist about 7 weeks ago. The doc said that there are certain hormonal breakouts that have to have medication. They put her on a pill and a few special washed and things. Its amazing. Within a few weeks I could a huge difference. So if your sure its his hormones, and youve tried the washing every morning and night, the dont waste any more time, go to the doc.
My daughter is 9 (!) and has started with acne already! I sell Mary Kay and she's using the Velocity wash and moisturizer and when she remembers to do it, it works! Getting her in the habit of using it is another story....
I have bad acne, posted not too long ago asking about accutane actually and am finally seeing a dermatologist again today.... ok that being said, schedule an appt to see a dermatologist (takes about 3 months to be seen anyways!)... there are so many creams gels etc that for mild acne will be fine and get rid of it! Also make sure he isnt washing his face with a face cloth, the face cloth might actually irritate the skin more due to over exfoliation, and then change out his pillow case more frequently. Acne isnt fair by any means, and hopefully your son only has some mild teen acne and it goes away without lasting too long and causing scars physically or emotionally :) Good luck momma!!
In addition to using a good product for acne, you
Could add a Zinc supplement. It's worked awesome for me...used to have frequent adult acne. My doc recommended it about a year ago and I haven't had any trouble since. Good luck!
Proactiv is great, my 16 yr old uses it. My 12 yr old thinks it is too harsh and uses a neutrogena product that works well, too. There are so many options now, play around with otc before you shell out the big bucks for the dermatoligist...that is, unless severe acne runs in your family.
My sister had perfect skin, mine hardly ever has a pimple too, her daughter had some breakouts and she used Melaleuca products and they cleared it up right away.

I have an 11 year old daughter who just started dealing with this too. We use a mild exfoliant at night and neutrogena in the mornings. In addition to keeping the skin clean, I encourage her to dring more water than she thinks she needs, stay away from a lot of junk food and sodas, and am teaching her how to manage the stress of 6th grade. Hormones will make this a fight, but we can give them a good advantage.
