Breakouts and Inability to Lose Weight- Is Mirena Causing This?

I am considering having my Mirena IUD removed. I have not had bad side effects and have liked Mirena (have had it almost 3 years), but the last 6 months I have had super crazy periods, like almost every 2 weeks. I had previously not had periods at all. My skin has been going crazy and I just realized my breakouts began when my period started again. Nothing I do (I have even gone to an esthetician and started high-end skin products) can clear my skin up. I have always had clear skin with the exception of the first months of my pregnancies. I am starting to wonder if the Mirena is what is causing my skin issues and also if it is making weight loss more difficult. Does anyone else have any experience with this? If you did have Mirena removed, did you notice improvements (skin and weight loss) and how long did it take?

What can I do next?

I gained 15lbs within the first 3 months of Mirena. Skin was also terrible. Gained another 15lbs the next 3 months, while dieting and exercising to get rid of the original 15lbs I gained. Had Mirena removed and am much happier for it.

Probably! I had the same problems when I had the Mirena. I.e. I had lost almost all of my pregnancy weight and ended up gaining about 30 lbs. after that. I also had a horrible time losing weight while on the Mirena. Same thing with my skin...it was HORRENDOUS while I had it in. My doctor swore up and down that it couldn't be the Mirena, yet low and behold, when I had it removed my skin cleared up and I was slowly able to lose weight! I suggest getting rid of it!

Not necessarily...it could just be your body's natural change in hormones. Or you diet. Or your stress level/life style...There's sooo many factors right now that could be playing a part in all of this. I'd go have some bloodwork done and see if your hormone levels are ok and have your thyroid looked at as well. Just go make sure everything checks out.

I don't get why you would suddenly be having periods. Have you talked to your dr?? Could the Mirena have moved or come out already?? I am really happy with mine but now that you mention it I have not lost any weight in a while...though I did loose my baby weight a long time ago. Good luck.
