Hi everyone, its me again. My son is running towards his second birthday and I made a promise to my husband that we would have him broke from his bah bah by now. Well here it is a couple weeks until the big 2 is here and well he still has to have it when he goes to sleep and if he actually takes a nap.( work in progress) He even will drink from a sippy cup or a cup with a straw but that darn bottle he just wont let go of. Do we let him ween himself? I have heard from a couple of my friends that their kids just gave it up theirselves but I am under pressure from husband and I dont know what to do. If anyone has any words of wisdom it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think kids ween themselves, I have seen some kids 4 year old with a bottle which in my opinion is ridiculous and lazy on the parents part. We had a hard time weening our twins off the bottle also. They were about two. I actually think it was after their 2nd birthday. We put chocalate milk in their sippy cups and let them have that for bed (they only had whole milk in the bottles) One of the boys took it the first night and was fine but the other one protested a couple of nights and we just kept telling him that the bottle was gone bye bye and that he could have his sippy with chocalate milk, by the third night he obliged and we haven't had any problems since. Good Luck I know it is hard.

Our pediatrician told us it would be harder the older they get to break them from the bottle so at 9 months we took the bottle away from our daughter. No problems. She has been drinking from a cup ever since. She still gets milk at bedtime just like she would a bottle only it's in a cup. I hope you have good luck with breaking him. Maybe if you try doing the "big boys drink from cups" thing he'll do better. I don't really know any other suggestions. I want to have our daughter broken from her paci by the time she's 2 and I have a feeling that's going to be very hard. If you have any suggestions with that please let me know. Good luck!

My daughter was the same, would drink anything and everything w/ a sippy cup but dang if I tried to give her 'bott-bott' in anything BUT a bottle. She's allergic to milk so I continued to give her the Advance Soy formula until a little after 2.
One day while we were at a friends house I saw she had a sippy cup that the top looked like a 'bottle'. It's a NUK product and know that Walmart sells them. I just made a big deal that she was a 'big girl' now and had a new 'big girl bottle' and it seems to work!!! She is now 2-1/2 and we no longer have the bottle issue, she ended up giving it up on her own shortly after introducing the "big kid' bottle.
Good luck, if you have questions you can email me at ____@____.com

Good luck!

I have heard of moms cutting the nipple a bit to discourage their children from the bottle as well as a pacifier I however don't know if it works but I thought you might want to try it! Good luck and if daddy is so pressed let him help with the solution he's your sons parent too reguardless of who stays home!

M., I use to do home daycare for 5 yrs. I would tell my parents that if they were wanting to break their child from the bottle or the binkie to start telling their child before their 2 b-day that when they turn 2 they are a big boy/girl and that means that the binkie fairy or the bottle fairy comes and takes all the bottles and binkies for the other babies that need them. Then you need to make sure that you get rid of all of them. If they see it then they will want it. Hope this might help. E.

I have a simple solution, just take it away, it really works, its hard when he yells for it, but just tell him he’s a big boy now and big boys drink out of cups, the hard part is controlling yourself from giving in. my son was off the bottle at one, and that’s how I did it. Hope this works, any advice on potty training I’m having a hard time with that one.
