I broke my son from his bottle at about 12mo. Once it no longer serves it's purpose, why let them have it?? What I did was to just throw the bottles away IN FRONT OF HIM, and tell him that his bottles are gone gone now. Let him see you throw them away so that he KNOWS they are gone. My son asked a few times, but after that..smooth sailing! The longer you wait, the harder it'll be to get rid of it:D Hope this helps!

I actually started introducing the sippy cup to my daughter when she was 7 or 8 months old. Every once in a while I would give her a Nuby sippy cup with some water or formula and let her try it for a few mins. As she got closer to 12 months, I would give it to her more often. By the time she was 12 months old, she had no problem drinking from any sippy cup!

Since your son is already about 12 months, I would give him his formula in a Nuby sippy cup at one of the times he would normally have a bottle every day. Do everything you would normally do if it was a bottle, such as holding him, holding the sippy cup like you would a bottle, etc. Give him time to figure out what to do with it.

The Nuby cup works well with most babies because it's so similar to the bottle. I recommend trying it first. Good luck!!

My daughter was not at all interested in sippy cups. One weekend, I just took the bottle away cold turkey. By Sunday, she was drinking from sippy cups. Just do whatever works best for you. You know your child best.

We went cold turkey. We had worked on the sippy cup for several months prior so he was used to it. Out of sight out of mind was my philosophy and it worked (luckily). I would at least try it that way; it can't hurt right?

We went cold turkey with our first one. I don't recall having any problems maybe let them how a bedtime snack like yogurt or a piece of fruit and a little milk in a sippy cup. The Nubi sippy cup is a great transition because the nipple is soft and rubbery like a bottle.

Hi,
As far as my experience, I just took the bottle away at his first birthday and he started using the sippy cups from Walmart. They have the soft lid and they dont spill, but they aren't the hard plastic like regular sippy cups. He adjusted immediately. they are only like 1.78 and i just absolutely love them. Once he got accustomed to those, we moved into the cups with the straws. Doing it cold turkey just works out so much better. Good luck.

what I did was introduce the sippy cup to him around a year old. He'd try it out, drink some of the formula from the sippy, but not all of it. I then poured what was left in the sippy into his bottle and let him finish (I wanted him to get his formula). There is a bit of a learning curve or they have to get used to the difference from bottle to sippy, I felt. I did that with every meal and within a week he drank all his formula or milk from the sippy...no more bottles, YIPEE!! It was a real easy transition.
