Hi guys,
I'm returning to work next week and need some breakfast ideas for my 13 month-old boy.
I'm looking for finger foods as it does make it easier for me to prepare and get the 2 kids out to daycare at a reasonable time for me to drive to work. Unfortunatly, my boy does not like toasts!!!! He is a picky eater.

I'm therefor open to suggestions.
Thanks

What can I do next?

Target has something called "crunchies" which is freeze-dried fruit. If you are nervous about choking, that would be a great way to go.

Other ideas:
Egg over hard, cut up into squares
Adult dry cereal (my kids liked bran flakes... go figure)
Rolled tortilla with cream cheese and peanut butter
Granola bars (hard or soft; my kids liked the really hard ones)
Smoothie in a sippy cup
Leftovers from the night before (sounds weird, but my little ones loved cubed potatoes, carrots, etc)
Cubed cheese or string cheese
Croutons (my kids LOVED these as a treat! I would sometimes make my own with butter, cinnamon and sugar for a special treat)

Our baby likes breakfast bars - like Nutrigrain. I've also heard some people who give little ones Pediasure drinks because of the vitamins...not in lieu of food, but as a supplement.

Also, what about dried fruit or apple chips? You can also make your own "trail mix" and keep it in a plastic cereal container so you can just pour some in a bag and go. We mix together the ends of "old" cereal, add dried blueberries or craisins or raisins, then some of their favorite cereals like cinnamon Life, honey nut Cheerios.

Another idea is to make mini-muffins or buy the Entennmann's Little Bites. My kids LOVE those too. Although muffins can be messy (esp for a car ride). They are a nice, quick way to get kids to eat something for breakfast while you are running around getting your/their stuff together for the day. We usually have muffins with a little apple sauce cup or yogurt. (My kids love the little apple sauce cups that have added fruit flavors like strawberries, mixed berries, etc.) and LOVE mixing dried fruits or crunchy granola into their yogurt to make "potions" or pretend they are a chef.

I hope this helps you!

We do the mini frozen waffles or pancakes and put them in little ziploc baggies along with a baggie of fruit. My kids LOVE nutrigrain bars, so those are good. Another big hit is the sausage and pancake stick, very easy to bring along :o). Or some cheerio's are good too!

Dry cereal always works. Some of the breakfast bars are ok - higher in sugar though. Mini bagels... You could always make a smoothie of yogurt and fruit and put it in a sippy (if he's doing that already)

I used to make mini quiches ahead of time and then freeze them for later. If he is a picky eater and does not care for traditional breakfast foods, then why not make him a sandwich or something that he will eat? My youngest was a picky eater when she was little and I had to think outside the box in order to get some nutrition into her body in the morning.

The good news is that the only restrictions on food at that age (from the American Academy of Pediatrics) are known family food allergens and those that present choking hazards.

Our kids are 2 & 4. They get breakfast at day care, but they like a snack in the morning.

Frozen waffles are always a hit along with cereal bars, Pop Tarts (I hate that they love them).
Because I take fresh fruit with me to work each morning, I wash some extra for them. The house rule is that they eat their fruit (usually grapes, blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupe) before they get anything else.

Clif makes kids protein bars that our kids love as well. You can get them at any grocery store, Target, Walmart, etc. Sams Club also carries them in bulk boxes that really reduces the cost.

We have one kid who loves breakfast and another who could care less, so it makes it a challenge. Both love GoGurt as well (I think it's gross) and string cheese in the morning as well.

I make a batch of pancakes - and make them small- on the weekend, freeze them then it's easy to thaw one out when you need it. I do the same for french toast, waffles, muffins, popovers. good luck
