Just wondering what a Braxton Hicks contraction might feel like. I don't think I had them with my son but with this pregnancy I think I am. I have 9 weeks left! Yay!
Every once in a while it'll feel like a muscle is pulling. It doesn't hurt.
Thanks for your input.
Have a great Mother's day.

Mine felt like a tightening that sort of rolled up my stomach. So the tightening would start at the bottom and then move its way up. If I relaxed they would go away and thats when you know they are Braxton Hicks. They weren't painful for me either, just sort of a weird tightening sensation. Congrats with baby #2....my #2 is due in August!

I agree with the other posts, they feel like abdominals tightening in the front of your belly. My midwife told me that if I had more than two in one hour, to drink one liter of water and rest with the feet elevated; because it was a sign of dehydration. Makes sense if we exercise with no water we cramp up! Same thing.

Congrats and best wishes!

Hi T.,

9 weeks - yahoo! almost there :)

I have 4 babies... 12, 10, 1.5, and 4 mo. :) I would describe braxton hicks contractions as a tightening of the muscles, like during a cough or a crunch, only it happened all on it's own. I couldn't necessarily 'feel' them (as a pain) but if i touched my stomach during one, it was clearly harder. depending one how the baby was lying, the shape of my stomach was odd too. I was one of those pregnant women who subconsciously touched her stomach ALL THE TIME, so I typically felt them that way.

This is a difficult thing to describe... it's almost like trying to describe what it feels like to have a baby moving inside you, to somebody who has never felt it :)

remember to drink lots of fluids and stay hydrated... so important in the home stretch especially (my first labor was very long and unproductive because of dehydration of the muscles).

Good luck to you! I hope everything goes beautiful and smoothly. Happy Mommy's Day :)

Hi T.,

I had LOTS of BH contractions with both of my pregnancies. It felt like my belly was very hard and tight, but mainly in just one area (often at the "top" of my baby bump). If I put my hand on the spot, it felt like a hard lump! They were not painful, but just annoying. They would decrease or go away if I rested. So, rest up before your second baby comes- since my 2nd was born, I don't get nearly as much rest as I did when I had just one baby! Good luck!
