Hello my fellow Moms...so, I have a quick question. I am pregnant with my 2nd child and I am starting to get braxton hicks and am only 19 weeks into my pregnancy. It typically happens when I am doing something "physical" and is really concerning me as I didn't start getting them until much later in my first pregnancy. So, my question is, is this something to be concerned about? Is it possible I am just more aware of what they are? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Hi, N.,
I had them from around 17 weeks with my second pregnancy. That was much earlier than with my first. Everything turned out perfectly fine and normal and I carried my daughter to full term. I wouldn't worry if I were you.

I would say normal.
If they get painful and a bit more serious, talk to you gp.
Also if there is any fluid loss or spotting.
I'm sure you'll be fine. From what I've heard, you feel everything more in the second one. You might have been getting BH earlier last time, but because you didn't know what it felt like, you didn't notice until later

I am a midwife. Braxton Hicks are completely normal and start as early as 6 weeks.

With my 2nd, I had BH contractions from about 1/2 way on. Sometimes I would have them and they would last 1-10 hours....but definitely not as intetense as labor, so I was never worried.

I always get adjusted by my chiropractor, so I've never gone into labor early. In fact, I thought I was in labor for about 8 hours with my 1st one, as positions, etc did not change the timing of the contractions and I was 3 weeks early. I went and got adjusted. Literally, within seconds of the adjustment, my contractions disappeared. I didn't have another one until 3 weeks later, after my water broke.

I had braxton hicks around 17 weeks when I was pregnant with my son. Usually it's after physical activity, something like cleaning around the house or sometimes even just bending down to get something on the floor. I usually just sit down and breath if that happens. I never called the doc about it because I just feel my tummy tightening and I didn't have cramps or anything so I didn't think anything of it. I read that it is normal to feel braxton hicks early on. But in case you are worry, the best thing to do is call your OB and ask.

I had them my whole pregnancy (like from week 4) with both of my pregnancies. So they aren't necessarily something to worry about.

Still - listen to your body! If they're only coming when you're doing something physical, then slow down.

And make sure you're drinking lots of water. Yes, you'll pee it all out, but I found mind were much worse when I was even a touch dehydrated.

Good luck with this pregnancy!

Well everyone is different with their pregnancy and the symptoms that go alone with it but for me I got braxton hicks early on like that too. Nothing was wrong. I was fine and so was my baby. With my first baby I went into labor at 38 weeks (but ended up with a c-section) so with my second I had my c-section at 39 weeks. Even having those braxton hicks so early on it didn't effect anything as far as when i went into labor. So i think your fine but always talk to your doctor just to make sure.

Stay hydrates and keep lots old electrolytes in your system. If you don't have enough magnesium and potassium you may get more than just the braxton Hicks. Take it easy, listen to your body and if you feel its something to worry about, talk to your care provider.
