I am pregnant with my 3rd and am 10 weeks. I have been feeling what I think is Braxton Hicks today, at least 8 times throughtout the day. I am a small person and remember well what they feel like. Has anyone else had BH this early? Is it normal to have that many this soon or should I call the doctor?

Probably what you are feeling is just stretching as well. I've had 5 and goodness, I experience something new and different it seems with each one. lol. I did this early on and it was painful and lasted about a week, then several weeks later, started doing it again. I grew a lot quicker with each child. Good luck and congratulations!

Hi S.-

I remember getting cramps that early, and I think it is pretty normal considering all the changes your uterus is undergoing. However, if the uterus is contracting and staying stiff like a braxton hicks, my midwife would tell you that you're not hydrated enough. Anytime that has happened before 3rd trimester, my midwife always tells me that I need to drink more water, and it seems that she's right. I am 25 weeks with my 3rd, and I've noticed a whole lot more BH's with this one than with the previous pregnancies. Good luck.

Hi S., I would error on the side of caution and call my doctor if I were you. It may be normal but I would rather a doctor tell you that than someone on the internet. Don't play around with it, call your doctor.
Thanks Pam

For me it was normal with all three of my pregnancies however, your midwife can answer that question better than a message board.
I cramped for the first few months.

For what I understand Braxton Hicks start to kick in towards the end of the pregnanacy, usualy due to dehaydration (mainly). You are to early to be having any kind of contraction or cramping. I would definately first take super easy, limit the activity level, drink plenty of fluids and I would definately call the doctor. Try to rest as much as you can. You are very early in pregnancy and it is a critical period. Take good care of yourself and I hope that you feel better soon.

always call you doc if there is concern about anything. rather be safe then sorry. plus it will ease your mind getting a docs opinion.

I always had BH early and throughout my pregnancies. I think some women just have them, and others just may not feel them or realize that's what it is. My docs were never concerned since there were no cervical changes. I always called them, though, to let them know what was going on. My last pregnancy I took weekly progesterone shots to help prevent preterm labor. It must have helped, since I made it to almost 36 weeks before going into labor. I always stayed hydrated (water bottle with me at ALL times), and rested if I started feeling more than a four per hour. I know it's nerve-wracking, though.
Good luck...... it may just be a normal thing for you too.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I just read some info from the Discovery Health channel on TV and the exact question was: "Is it normal to have Braxton Hicks early in your pregnancy." Well, I thought No; but to my surprise, the answer was yes-even in the first trimester as early as 8 weeks! I am the mother of three (all grown men) and the grandmother of 1 and I never knew that! But my advice is that if you are worried-call your dr. if it makes you feel better.
