Hello mamas,

I have several boxes of brand new clothes and toys that my daughter never used. Instead of just giving it to Salvation Army, do you know of any hospitals or organizations that would find these items useful? Thanks for any suggestions.

What can I do next?

You could donate it to a non-profit that a friend of mine started called "Loved Twice" where she bundles up boxes of baby clothes and takes them to hospitals for them to give to under-privileged moms.

I'd check your local family, homeless, or women's shelters.
Blankets and plush toys would be welcome at Project Night Night, which puts together packages for children at homeless shelters http://www.projectnightnight.org/

Our firm utilized Compass Community Services. They have won awards and provide services families such as emergency shelters, medical, food, clothing, etc. Look it up. During the holidays we pick a few families and make their Christmas special.

This is a great gesture and will make you feel good. Good luck!

Hello C.,

Elaine has an awesome suggestion. I am not sure if I have it right, but I also think Berkeley Parents Network has charities that sometimes post on the Marketplace emails. If you subscribe to it, that is. I always see organizations on there that are requesting donations.

Hope this helps!

It's very generous of you to give these items away. I recommend the Shelter Network, which provides support and temporary housing for homeless families. It's hard enough having babies or young children, but to try to raise them while homeless must be supremely difficult. They always need items, especially for babies and children, and will distribute everything you donate that day to families who need them. I have given gently used items my own children used and outgrew. Here's the website:

Hi C.,

My mother has a day care and also sends clothes to her country to less fortunate children. Let me know if you still have them and would like to have them picked up.

Have a blessed day.
