Bradley Method

Hi fellow moms. I'm due to have my second child in April 2010. I'm really looking to do child birth without medication this time (as I got an epidural last time and I'm not a fan of the side effects). I think that I'd like to try the Bradley method this time, or something similar. Do you know of any Bradley Method classes in the SF Valley, between Woodland Hills out to Thousand Oaks? Any support would be greatly appreciated, as most people I know support getting an epidural. Has anyone used a doula in this area during the birth process that found it helpful?

What can I do next?

I'm a huge advocate of unmedicated birth. I did take Bradley classes. They helped a lot. I've heard from most mom's the second child was/is much easier to deliver, so you can consider that. It also seems like many women birth/labor like their mother's did. You could ask your mom how her second birth, if there was one, turned out, to give you an idea of a possible outcome of your own. And how uncomplicated was your first? I did use a doula and she was very helpful. I highly recommend one. My husband worked very well with her too, so I feel my birth was a good as it gets. Sure it's painful, but you survive it. I think the fear of the pain is the greatest inhibitor. I think to birth unmedicated is worth it. My friend Kathy knows of many Bradley teachers in the area. Her email is: ____@____.com Doula is located in Sunland, if you wanted her info, contact me directly. You may want to find one who lives close to you. That is helpful. Contact me w/ any questions or concerns. Good Luck!

I wanted to do a drug-free birth and my doctor supported the Bradley method. I took classes at the UCLA Santa Monica hospital which covered a wide range of techniques. I found the breathing techniques the most useful. I used a TENS machine (purchased in England, where they are commonly used) and got through a 42 hour labor with 5 of it at the pushing stage and no drugs. I would thoroughly reccommend it, for a drug free labor and birth.

I don't know anything about Bradley Method, but I am a great fan of Hypno-birthing.
I had my 1st baby without epidural, iv or monitors. It was incredibly freeing. I was able to labor in a tub, and in any position that i wanted.
I am looking to doing it again this time around.
I have a great mid-wife that i recommend and a great hypno-birthing coach that's a genius. Let me know if you are interested...

Hi! Good for you for planning a natural childbirth. I had a natural childbirth (VBAC) and it was one of the most enriching and healing experiences of my life. I had a doula and I highly recommend them. A good doula can make all the difference between having a positive or negative experience at your childbirth- no matter what happens. Her prerogative is to serve you. I wish I could recommend one but my doula happened to be a good friend of mine who went through some doula training and switched careers. She gave me all her doula info. to study and I was able to return the favor this summer at her first birth- at home with a midwife in a tub! 10 1/2 pound baby 0 complications. I highly recommend birthing with a midwife if possible because they tend to be more supportive of natural childbirth. Best wishes!

I did Bradley with a wonderful woman named Sherry Rumsey. Her website is: http://www.birthingbaby.com/

She also was my doula. I had a non-medicated labor and delivery. I highly reccommend her!

Hi J. -
I teach a method called Supported Birth that might interest you. You can check out my website to learn more about it at www.supportedbirthclass.com
I teach group classes at Mother's Haven in Encino and teach privately where I come to your home. In addition, I am also a doula - if you want to try to have an unmedicated birth I highly recommend you hire one. Please feel free to email me back if you would like to talk more and I can give you my phone number.
Good luck - I know you'll find a class and doula that will be right for you.
