Braces and Headaches

My daughter has braces and gets bad headaches that start at her jaw and work it's way to the side of her head. It's excruciating but only lasts a few minutes at a time. She gets blurred vision and dizzy too when it's so bad. The chiropractor says that it isn't from her braces. She's had headaches since she was 8 but not this bad. She's 15 now. Docs just say pain meds and Chiropractor does help some. Just wondering if you had any thoughts. I've never had to deal with migraines or anything like this. Do you have any natural remediy ideas? Thanks so much!

I used to get the same type of headaches when I had my braces. They were worse after my ortho appointments, probably because they tightened the braces. The only thing that ever worked for me was an OTC pain killer (Tylenol or Ibuprofen) and rest.
Make sure that she's drinking LOTS of water. I get bad migraines and most of the time it's due to the fact that I'm dehydrated. For some reason, it took my doctors years (and a few hospital visits) to make the correlation. The last time I went to the hospital, they told me I was severely dehydrated. Up her water intake and see if that helps.
Other than that, I would do some research on different types of headaches and maybe consult a headache center.

My one daughter (in ele. school) has occasional migranes, no braces yet. She tends to get them when she is more dehydrated. Keep her well hydrated and see if that helps. My other daugher with braces has a sore mouth for a few days after tightening, but no headache.

I had headaches, jaw aches, and toothaches constantly when I had braces. I still remember, even though it was 25 years ago! I would push them to find something more to help her.

Without the knowledge of braces, I would say migraine, but does she seem to mainly get them when they are tightened?

I have a sensitive tooth right now and went into the dentist on Friday. They did x-rays, poked, prodded, grinded, tapped, and on and on. I ended up with a migraine from that, so teeth can definitely have an affect. Unfortunately, the only thing that works is sleep in a dark room - if you can sleep, and drugs. I prefer the two together, but can't take the medicine right now while breastfeeding. The only natural thing that I have heard that helps is acupuncture. I just hope that my root canal tomorrow doesn't trigger another one.

how much caffeine is she taking in - I started to get migraine headaches when I was about that age and they stopped cold when I gave up the sugary caffeine rich soda I was consuming.

My boss had real bad migraine headaches. Someone recommended to her to wear a magnetic necklace and this has really helped. You can contact John at ____@____.com and he will give you more info.
