I know this has probably been asked more than once but how is the best way to measure to find out a bra size at home. I'm 18 month post baby (number 4) and very self conscience about bring measured. I am si tired of wearing nursing tanks especially since she quit nursing 6 months ago. I know they are bigger yet again and need to get me a new bra. Also where would be the best place to get one to cover the puppies, well boulders not sure if Victoria secret hasem big enough so need other options.

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies for all the help. I plan on trying to find a decent store but there really isn't one in my area other than Walmart or the mall. I have to try them on first before I vomit and was just wondering so I could get an idea of where the best place to start would be. Thanks again for all the help.

I go to a lingerie store-- one that specializes in pretty much mostly bras, some wedding trousseau stuff.... not Victoria's secret and not the mall... many department stores don't carry my size. I'm short but wear an HH; found that the molded cups can be a help. Also, consider that you are wearing this thing all day, so really try it out. One specialty shop I went to recently gave me a smaller band size and a larger cup size, and that brai is lovely, but it's VERY snug on the ribs. I save that one for tops which really need to drape well. My other ones are the next band size up and a smaller cup size, but are more relaxed and work better for daily wear.

It's in your best interest to go get properly measured. If you've had 4 babies... What's holding you back from getting a proper measurement??

The best places around here are Neimans, Nordstrom and Dillard's.

Don't let your modesty or issues keep you from getting a proper fit. The bra fitters have seen it all... You are no different!!

Let it go and get a good bra

I don't think Victoria's Secret is the place for you. I know the college kid down the street from me got a job there fitting bras with zero experience or interest. I'd go to a major department store (Nordstrom's, Macy's, Lord & Taylor etc.) or to a bra place like Lady Grace. The fitters are professional, you can tell them exactly how relaxed or self-conscious you are, and tell them whether to stay with you or wait for you to call them. I find it very reassuring at Lady Grace because they have all kinds of women, all sizes, post-breast-surgery women, everyone. They've seen every breast and size and woman, and they are not just looking at you for whether you want a lacy little something for your perfect figure.

Yes you can measure yourself at home, but every bra company seems to be different and every style within the company is different. So I don't find the numbers/measurements all that relevant.

Yes, go watch the video Hell on Wheels posted! I have used it and it was a lifesaver!
The best places I have gone are Nordstroms and a local specialty shop here in San Diego. I especially liked the specialty shop. Look at Yelp or your yellow pages to see if you have any near you.
I am not a fan of Victoria's Secret. I haven't fit a bra there in 20 odd years. I am now wearing a 36F but I'm fairly certain I've gone up another cup size based on how it's fitting. The measuring tape, following the instructions in the afore mentioned video seems to agree. Just haven't been able to do anything about it.

I'm pretty well endowed and have had pretty good luck shopping at kohls for bras. If you have no idea what size you need to buy here's a site that's pretty easy to use based on the bra you are currently wearing. https://liviraelingerie.com/ It will give you a general idea of what size you need to look at and then you can work your way up or down from there.

Remember to give yourself a lot of time to try different sizes and styles. I think I tried on 30 before I found something that worked for me. Crazy.

Measure under your breasts for band size, then around fullest part -- the difference in inches determines cup size.
True&Co. Will send you up to 5 selected bras to try on at home for free as long as you leave feedback & return immediately, there is no charge.
If you keep any, your cc will be charged. Easy peasy.

I listened to Diane B. about bra fitters.

Go to a lingerie department or store that specializes in fitting larger women.

Okay. No matter what "I" measure those never work out for me.

When I measure I should be in a H or something. When I put on a DDD bra in the larger size around for me it gaps all over the place in the top half.

Why???

Because I'm short. Those larger cup bras are meant for women 6' tall I think. So I take in 3 different sizes.

You know how your bra feels around. For instance if it's a 36 C but the cup is too small. The next option would of course be a 36 D.

When I went to try on bra's I'd take in a 36D, 36DD, and maybe a 38C, 38D too just to see if putting the hooks on the smaller hooks would make it fit well.

There are many ways to find the perfect size for yourself and not involve anyone else. But YOU have to go try stuff on to see how it feels.

One thing I've had to come to terms with is the style of bra I wear too.

I have always worn low cut demi cups with underwires in DD. I can wear any neckline with that style bra and not have it show. Plus the girls look sexy in that style even if they jiggle a bit when I move.

Now that I'm heavier and older I had to finally give them up for every day wear and I'm so much more comfortable. I wear a bra from Lane Byrant and I can walk in, try on each bra I'm going to buy and maybe one of them will have some odd fit to it but overall I try on every bra that I buy, just in case.

I get a bra that has good support and is comfortable. I don't dress in old lady bras either. I buy cute bras but without all the padding and wires.

This is a good article on finding bra size. Another good place is www.breakoutbras.com. They have a section on sizing that is easy to follow. Good selection of bras and free shipping too.

I am a US size 36G or H, UK size 36F or FF--pay attention to the brand of the bra and make sure you are buying the right size, there are differences in international sizing. That said, many of my favorite brands (Panache, Freya, Fantasie, Curvy Kate) are from the UK. Figleaves.com is another good place to look, as is amazon.com--I just bought a handful of bras from Amazon that were on sale, each was $15-25 instead of the regular price of $45-65.

Stay away from Victorias Secret and any store that only carries bras to D or DD cup. You can get a good measurement at home, and buy online if you don't have a good bra store nearby or don't want to shop in person. Just look for a flexible return policy, order a few to try and see what fits well and what you like and return the rest.
