Boys Bed Tent Canopy

Hi moms! I want to make a tent canopy for my sons bed and need help! I found one a few months ago from Pottery Barn Kids but didn't want to spend the $150 they were asking for it. I love the look of it. It was beige and it hung from the ceiling, jutted out to the right and left and then hung straight down to the floor. I googled how to make one but I can't seem to find a website that has both instructions that make sense and a photo. I'm guessing that I need to get some thin plastic tubes to make it hold it's shape at the top. Any info you can give me on a good website would be great. Or maybe you have instructions of your own. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Yes the hula hoop works for circular canopy's. You can also use the foam pool noodles if you are looking for a specific shape. The metal curtain rods can be used also. Just nothing heavy. I am a seamstress and have made all kinds of unique things for my kids over the years. If you want you can e-mail me and I will be more than happy to walk you through it. Good luck.

Go to a fabric and craft store and look at sewing patterns. They do have decorator patterns also for pillows, curtains, canopies etc. Go at a time when they won't be really busy and ask if anyone who works there has done this before. Often they will let you open the pattern and read the instructions and the store associate can explain anything you don't understand. You could also sign up for a sewing class, ask questions, and maybe use this as your class project. Or look into an interior design class to see if you can learn how to make decorator projects for your home.
You might end up with a cottage industry, making decorator projects for others and get paid to do it. :-)

I have never made one, but was looking at one a while back for my daughter. I think you can use a hula hoop to hold the shape at the top. I guess you could paint it the color you want or just drape the maerial over it. I would love to see yours when you finish it.
