Do all babies have bowed legs and they just straighten out later? Just curious...new mom and noticed my daughter's lower legs are bowed...

What can I do next?

Its normal. She has very little muscle tone in her legs right now, but as she builds muscle her legs will appear straighter. Have you ever noticed a baby who has just started walking. They often walk a very obvious bow legged walk. We generally call it a diaper waddle. As they get more confident with walking and build strength in their legs they will gradually begin to walk a straighter step. Part of this is confidence and part of it is muscle build in the calves.

Yup! Once they start crawling and walking and getting longer, legs normally straighten out. One thing to to keep in mind about it though is that encouraging kids to walk before they're ready can actually make leg bowing worse.

My grandson has them and so does his dad. They are really bowed. The podiatrist has us do exercises every time we change his diaper. We rotate his hip by lifting his foot up and push his knee out to his side. The foot stays up and flat on our tummy. His knee just goes out, gently. This stretches out the hip jopint and helps it form better and stronger. The bowed led usually comes from teh hip joint according to the doc. It really seemed to help stengthen and straighten his legs. He also had shoe inserts that he wore every day too.

Yes, they all or most get bow legs, some more deeper than others. Some start out bow leg then it turned knock knees and eventually it is supposed to straighten out

Yes and no. Don't freak out or anything but you should just keep watching. My son was bow legged when he was a baby but he didn't grow out of it right away and when he started walking he was falling all the time. He ended up having to have these insert things in his shoes for a little while until he basically walked himself out it.

I've been told by many in the "holistic" field that it is a nutritional deficiency. While in traditional medicine the bowed legs are "normal" it isn't the case outside of traditional medicine. My 15 month old has perfectly straight legs, no waddle when she walks, etc. all I've been told is due to her strict diet of healthy, mineral and nutrient rich foods.

Yeah, pretty much. Your pediatrician will check them at well-child exams and action, if needed, is taken around the age of two.

yep most if not all babies have bowed legs. It comes from wearing a diaper 24/7 among the other things the ladies mentioned.
