My son is 13 months old and is still on 3 bottles a day. Yesterday I put milk in his 'lunch' bottle and he refused to drink it. I warmed the milk and then second attempt I tried to add carnation instant breakfast - no luck!! My son can drink water and juice from a sippy cup no problem and he has been since he was 10 months old. I use the Nuby sippy cups which I love. After he refused the milk in the sippy he cried and was very fussy until I gave him water in a sippy cup which he probably drank 6oz, so I know he was thirsty but no interest in milk. He still drinks 8oz milk in the am and pm from a bottle. Any suggestions? Help!!! LOL:

What can I do next?

If you can get him away from the bottle I think that would be great. If you are concerned about him not getting enough calcium give him other things with calcium. Cereal, puddin snack, cheese, etc. Many products out there that have high calcium.

I might not be the best person to give advice since my 19 month old still drinks 2 bottles a day. I have tried every sippy/straw cup on the market (seriously--I've spent a fortune) and no luck--she refuses to drink milk from a cup (but will drink anything else from a cup). I've finally decided to stop stressing about it. It makes her happy (everyone has their vices, right? Pacifiers, thumb sucking, blankies etc..) and they are only little for a short time--she'll do it eventually. Does anyone know a kid in high school who still drinks from a bottle??? I don't want to take them away because I want her to drink milk. So, if you try and it fails, try again in a month or two and so on, but don't beat yourself up about it if yours is slow to give up the bottles. Just make sure you don't let him fall asleep with milk in his mouth (but that's the same with sippies too).

I would probably just get rid of the bottles in the house. Totally rid of them so you're not tempted to use them (or he'll learn if he cries long enough he'll get one). That's what we did and once they realized bottles were not an option they were over it. You can still hold him in the a.m. and p.m. and have a sippy or straw cup of milk together. My kids did fine unless they saw a bottle. Out of sight out of mind...hopefully!

If you are still using formula then I wouldnt worry. If it is regular milk, go back to the formula. The 16 oz. of formula with his water, juice and a variety or other food should be adequet for him. Just make sure your offering a lot of healthy options throughout the day. Make sure he has enough wet diapers per day. He will let you know if he is hungary. Pay attention to his cues and try new things. Scrambled eggs are great at this age, use the organic, free range kind. This will give him much needed dha (it isnt found in the cheaper dozens). Organic yo baby yogurt is great too. Hope it helps. Best of luck to guys!

HI Ann- dont' stress over it too much- my son is 17mos and just got off the bottle! I was so worried- b/c my other two were using sippy cups at 10 mos- I just quit trying so hard for a couple of weeks and kept offering the sippy(nuby is great) and let him carry it around the house , in the car..etc.. quit offering the bottle in the morning- make the last one to go the bottle at night. within two weeks- he doesn't take a bottle anymore- also don't let him see the bottles- I would get my son in the morning and hold him while getting a cup out of the cabinet and if he spied a bottle in the back- he would push whatever sippy cup I got out for him away! They are smart- but it will take about 10 days to transfer him to a new habit.
Good Luck and stick with it- if you dont' give in, one day you'll realize, oh my goodness - he hasn't had a a bottle in 3 days!
Good Luck
Nikki

my daughter has a son 18 mos. old. He has NEVER liked milk. At random times we'll "slip" him some very cold milk. He'll sip on it a few times and then thats it. His pediatricians response was "so, he won't drink milk". So, now we just don't stress over it and get him to drink it whenever we can.

Ann,
At our son's one year checkup the doctor told us no more bottles. So I went home and packed them away *didn't want to throw them out cause we will use them the second time around*. If you feel like you would be tempted give them to a friend or relative that wouldn't mind holding on to them if you will be having more children. After a couple times our son knew no more bottle and if I want to drink it will have to be from the cup. I really enjoyed using the avent sippy cups. They were great for transitioning. Good luck and he will come around!

Have you tried it in a cup with a straw? Might be different enough from the bottle that he might be interested? Good luck.

My oldest son refused to drink milk at first. I panicked. His doctor told me to chill and gave me some other sources of calcium. He eventually started to drink milk (a friend of the family gave it to him and he drank it for her) and has never had a broken bone so I think he must have a good solid skeleton. He is 10 now and NEVER slows down.

My son won't drink anything in a sippy cup except water, I know that is good but..... Milk is not essential! Some kids are lactose intolerant anyway. Try a sippy cup that looks like a big cup with a straw. That helps us, sometimes. Good luck!

Hi Ann- I finally just got my daughter to drink milk from her sippy cups, I have bought every brand out there seeing if there is one she likes, well we finally found one (the one with OUT the stoppers), but your son will drink milk out of his cup when he is ready, we would give her milk in her cup everyday, and she would push it away, until a couple of weeks ago, she actually drank it, I was so happy! Give him time, he will do it when he is ready! Sorry if I was rambling... Good luck, let us know how it works out!
