What do you use your for your child? We have a 6 year old and I'm trying to figure out which to get. What are your thoughts? High Back or Low Back for a 6 year old?

What can I do next?

I like the high back due to the shoulder strap having its own hole to slide through so it is always right on their body. But I am the only one of my friends that didn't go straight to the plain booster seat with cup holders and such.

We have our 5 year old in the Britax Frontier 85 and he will be in that for a long time. 5 point is the safest until they are 57".

We have a high back for several reasons. First it supports his head when he falls asleep. Second we got the one with the lights in it so he can see at night without having to turn on the lights and third he said they were more comfy for his butt. LOL

My daughter will be 6 in February, but she is small for her age. In my truck (her main transportation) we have a Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 that will hold her in a 5-point harness until she is 65 lbs. Then it will be a high back booster and then a backless booster.

In my husband's car we have our older Cosco seat that has a 5-point harness and then is a high back booster. We just recently decided she is too tall for the harness (straps go below her shoulders), so she now uses that as a high back booster when we ride in that car. It works well for her and helps the seatbelt lay across her correctly.

She is about 41 1/2" tall and about 40 lbs.

My suggestion is a highback, but it depends on the size of your child and the seats in your car.

My FIL has a Dodge Charger with high form-fitting seats and angled bases. So a highback doesn't sit right, but a backless fits just right and my nephews head is not above the seat.

If you have a minivan with low seat backs then you should definitely get a highback for the head support/protection.

The high backs have better head protection especially in a side impact. They grow out of those faster though. Is your child big for their age?

Our almost seven year old is in the britax frontier, harnesse to 85lbs then belt to 120. Nothing but the absolute safest for us after a fatality accident when she was one!

I would highly suggest testing them out in your car before you become determined for one or the other...see I cannot use a low booster in my van in the back seat it doesn't fit correct, I have to have a high back or a convertible. I can have a small one in the other seat but I use them in the back...it depends on the vehicle

My 5 1/2 year old has a highback, but he had to use a lowback last night in someone elses car. I'm pretty sure it really just depends on whether or not the shoulder strap will fit properly. You want to make sure it really goes over their shoulder and doesn't cut into their neck.

I noticed my son has gotten taller, because the shoulder strap seemed to hit him in the right spot. I'd feel better about the lowback now.

Keep in mind the car you put her in might also effect where the strap hits her.
