Hi All Mommies..............can anyone recommend 1 or 2 books about " your baby's first year". I have sooooo many questions that don't always need a phone call to the Pediatrician.

Thank You!

I highly recommend The Portable Pediatrician. It costs about $15 from Amazon, and it is really strightforward, easily organized, down-to-earth; it has a lot about health/development, but what I like best is her explaining how best to parent each age group. The book gave me hope at a lot of times when I felt like I didn't know what I was doing as a parent. I give it as a baby shower gift whenever I can!

We love the What to Expect When You Are Expecting series. Can get them in a 3 book series, expecting, year 1, and toddler. We have it on our coffee table an refer to it often.

My favorite was The Baby Book by Dr Sears.

BTW, I see you're from Rego Park, I grew up there :)

What to Expect The First Year. My husband and I used to joke that it was my "bible". I would recommend it to all parents as a reference.

I loved "The Baby Book" by Drs. Sears. I think they have a few other books out too. They provide alternative (attachment) parenting strategies which really really helped us out.

Agree with the rest:
1. What to Expect the First Year
2. What to expect Toddler Years
3. Finally, I found www.babycenter.com to be a good resource during my pregnancy and afterwards too. It tells you week by week how your baby is growing and what milestones they should be hitting.

Our pediatrician recommended a great book, especially for all those health-related questions. It's "Your Child's Health" by Barton D. Schmitt, MD, FAAP. We're still using it and the girls are 10 and 12yrs. old.

I didn't care for the What to Expect Books...they are packed with great insight, but something about the set up made it difficult for me to find the info I needed. My pediatrician gave me Baby 411 and Toddler 411. I could NOT have lived without them. When I had my second baby I bought the newer editions of the books.

the book "what to expect the first year" is great. You can find it pretty much anywhere or online like at www.amazon.com or maybe even E-bay.

This same series, also has a book called "What To Expect: the Toddler Years." Which is great too... for when you need it for that age.

Good luck,
Susan
