My mother is recovering from surgery in a Rehab facility and is very bored. I'd like to get her some books from the libarary but her taste and mine are not the same. She says she likes mysteries and spy books. Does anyone have any recommendations or a particular author you enjoy?

Thank you,

M.

These are some of my favorite authors. Jeffrey Deaver, Michael Connelly and LIsa Gardner. They each have a series (or two) so you may want to get early books so if she gets into it she can continue to read the rest of the series. If she hasn't read the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, the early ones are laugh out loud funny (and I don't say that about much) and have a mystery story to them.

Kathy Reichs' books (the basis for the tv series Bones) are quick, fun reads.

Janet Evanovich and Sue Grafton do really great series with female leads. Evanovich's Stephanie Plum character is a bounty hunter and Grafton's Kinsey Millhone is a PI. Both are mystery books with some fun characters.

I recently finished The Pelican Brief. I love the movie, the book is a bit different but equally enjoyable.

She might like The Number One Ladies Detective Agency series. They take place in Botswana. They aren't your typical mystery, but they are fun reads.

I have been reading Terri Blackstock and enjoy her books. She is a Christian author who writes mysteries. I also like Lisa Scottoline. Karen Kingsbury is my absolute favorite but hers are not mysteries.

If she would be interested in reading books set in the Southwest US, Tony Hillerman has written a bunch of detective novels focusing on Native American groups. They're really fascinating. I personally enjoy the classics too (Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers).

Kindred by Octavia Butler. But because you don't know her taste, get all of these recommended from a library.

I bet she would like karen Cantwell, A Barbara Marr murdery mystery. There are 4 books in the series
Take the Monkeys and RUn
Citizen Insane
Silenced by the Yams
Saturday Night Cleaver

I really liked them. It was an easy read but still had mystery and spy all included in one.
