Hi all!

I was just wondering if my daughters bones cracking all the time is normal. Her knees, elbows, wrists, hips, ankles, back, neck.....everything cracks. When she is playing when she is getting a massage, when she gets picked up. Today, I was holding her and she bent backwards sending her almost upside down (and almost on the floor). When her back bent backwards it cracked like 6 times! Icky! My dad commented on it, and since I though it was wierd too, so I thought I'd ask you ladies!

What can I do next?

My 2 month old son's do that all the time throughout the day. It freaked me out because neither of my other two kids bones did this. His pedatrician told me that it was completely normal for some kids and not to worry about it. It's hard not to though when you hear the sound and you think you're breaking your child.

my daughter did that when she ws pretty young (under a year), and I did ask my doctor about it, and if I recall correctly (this was some years ago) he said babies have more fluid around their joints...? I could be remembering that wrong, but my point is, my doctor said it was normal.

My son cracks a lot too. Almost every time I pick him up it cracks his back and the other day I tried to gently pull his hand through his sleeve and it popped his wrist. I think since babies' bones are not yet fully developed (they are soft, and if they lift too much weight, they will bend), their joints are probably not either. It takes a while for them to even get kneecaps. I don't think it is helpful to crack them on purpose, but if this happens, it is probably much safer than it would be for an adult.

My joints alway cracked and are still loose. I'v enever found a solution, and I've tried a lot. I am more prone to joint pain and things like carpal tunnel syndrome and such. Our older son is the same way and our doctor said some kids are just that way. You want to try to avoid it if possible, but like one mom said, sometimes just picking them up can do it. Our second son doesn't have the same tendency. Both me and the older one are double jointed, which you can help by not letting them bend it backward (when she's older). Don't worry too much, but do mention to the doctor, just in case the next time you're there.

Talk to your doctor. It may be normal but there can be diseases with symptoms of very loose ligaments.
